Crazy Engine Adventure

So, I think I just figured out that I swapped in a z24 engine from a D21 hard body into my 81 720 pick up. I was having the hardest time finding a matching distributor for this engine and it was because I was searching under 720s.

I found a reman dist for a 1986 d21 for $240 bucks. This should work right?! I just have this feeling that I walking into a dead end project here. Boy, do I wish I had gotten an engine from another 720 4x4.

if the dizzys from the 720s wont fit then the z24 you have is an electro-injected engine from birth..... yes the d21 dizzy most likely will fit but it will be ECU dependant :(

the other z24 dizzys you have will work if you replace the oil pump driveshaft with an earlier carby model

There's very little to wear out in the Z24 EI dizzy. Grab one from any wrecking yard for $50. As Steve said get the drive spindle under it by dropping the oil pump. The CAS crank angle sensor and spindle in the D-21 has to go. The CAS drive spindle looks like this:

Below: the left three are CAS Z24 and two KA spindles. Middle three are the ones you want from Z motors. The right two tall ones I don't remember what they are from, maybe L24E
