Truck gear/trans ratios-workthread

Recommended Posts

I must admit that I have almost no Datsun knowledge

I am posting this thread in the hope that we can gather some info that can be searched easily. I will set the goals as follows:

1. list all truck rear end ratios 320 to hardbody

2. maybe a similar list of transmission ratios

3. A list of other datsun gears/trans that swap

4. maybe cross ref with titles for other cars

I think we can use this thread to brainstorm and then compile/edit and repost as a final reference thread, wrap it up in old Datsun ads out of the newspaper, and put a pretty bow on it. Aww, ain't that special

If you post please put in the post title the number(ie. 1,2,3,4....)from the category above so the person who edits can reference them, maybe keep it specific to model and put that in the title as well.

If you want to make a suggestion, please put that in the title of your post

I figure this may help the guys that know and keep answering the same questions to guys who don't know and keep pestering you. Plus, maybe we can find the info easier

anyone game?

I made a table a long time ago. Only goes from 520-720s though, as I was sticking with the H190 rear end and the 320s and D21s used something else.

http://206.63.251.158/datsun/gearratios.txt

It starts with transmission ratios for various cars/trucks, has a list of rear ratios for 66-86 trucks, and then a table of engine RPMs with various combinations (using a single tire size for reference). The ratios are taken from the factory manuals, which aren't always 100% accurate as there may have been midyear changes that aren't in the manuals I have, but it's for the most part pretty accurate.

320 transmission ratios, this info taken from service manual available online on the 620. http://www.olddatsuns.com

320 UP,UR ( does anyone have one of these heavy duty models?)

Rear End Gears

320 UP-5.14:1

320 U,UN-4.875:1

Correct me if I am wrong but I belive that the "U" is the L model, the "UN" is the NL model and the "UP" I have never seen. Maybe the van or the crew-cab version? The models UP and UR show a much higher payload capacity.

521 gear ratios also taken from online manual from the 620. http://www.olddatsun.com

There are many 521 models listed in the manual, separated into three groups, one with a floor shift trans ( american export?), two with column shift (Japanese domestic, other export?) I focused on model L521T
