  1. Thanks datzen mike. for info. the H150 I put in was out of a 76 AC coupe B210 with a manual in it. it did have a swapped trans in it a 60 series 5 speed. but the trans tunnel is smaller. I cant read the vin plate under the hood so hopefully the door will give me the info. that it is a 3.700 as I have tired to find a 3.54 but it seems like they are rare as hens teeth....so monday is the big day to test and tune again my hybrid engine.
  2. I got some higher octane gas to run and I do have another dizzy to try out. this one changes degress at idle 5 to 3 it dances around a little, it is a rebuilt rock auto unit, try and get a new one!!! right!! I just spent last week, changing my rear end over to a 76 with a H150 unit for hopefully lower rpms on the freeway and put poly bushs on the rear from the rotten rubber ones. so a lot of work!
  3. Thanks Datzenmike, I will do that on Monday. also I have a scheme of throwing my 990 head on my A15 engine with dish pistons. Does anyone have or can sell A14 dished pistons... thanks for the info Tom1200. which means I got to find A14 dish pistons or use my A15 like it is to match the MPG 1981 Motor. minus the A14 Engine...
  4. I have run the motor with 0 timing and it really didn't like it. So I have to go to 5 degrees at least and try it out. It seam not to shake as much and more in time with 5 degrees put it pinged at light throttle.
  5. so the A14 and A15 use the same pistons? will they interchange?
  6. I think your right datzenmike, I retarded the timing a few degrees and it stopped the pinging, engine still didnt sound happy, prob. wants at least 5 degrees, does anybody know if can build a engine with A15 parts to A14 block like swapping out the pistons for more of a dish, to decrease compression ratio? or possible use A15 pistons in my A13 block? Because the the A15 pistons I have, have a dish in them??
  7. I will try u solution. Thanks datzenmike
  8. Hi guys, in my attempt for ever better fuel economy on my 74 B210 coupe, I replaced the stock head with a 728 FU round port head and I have a 990 81 head to try as well on my A13, I know they were used on a A14, but the engine runs and starts better then with the stock head all other parts are original. the car has more pep, the only thing is it pings pretty good under light to med load on the road. I have 5 degrees of timing and from what I am reading online, I need to take some out maybe 3 to 2 degrees?? cause there is a smaller amount of cylinder head, and higher compression. I will adjust tuesday hopefully will solve my prob. I want o run 87 gas in it. any other thoughts for my tuning??? thanks Jim
  9. thanks datzenmike for all the things to check. I did install a new head gasket and the rad hoses are brand new. i ended up using a alum. rad 3 core from a 78 holden for australia. with elec. fans and they kick on and cooling is great. I did run more rad flush in the system and it cleared up more. But when I got the car the engine was severally neglected! lots of scale and rust.
  10. Thanks datzenmike, you always have the answers lol. who is the A Series Engine Guru?? Also I have a 728 from a FU engine 1977 era B210 but it has the oil hole you showed in the picture in it, can I still use that head with my A13 its oil is plugged.. mine is a 74 engine. is the 728 head oiled from the bolt or just the third hole???
  11. Hi all. I am writing this post to ask if I can put a 990 head on my A13 I have ask a13 racers and they said it would work.. I want to build up my motor for economy.. what do u think datsun mike?? Will other a14/15 head work on a A13?? Any and all info is greatly appreciated..
  12. Hi all. I have not been able to work on the car for a while, to answer questions, the timing is set to 5 degrees, and the car ran in the middle normally in town but the normal temp is outside is around 70s's. when it heated up the outside air was 95F and the car got up to the first mark of the H, my gauge said 220 215. almost to the H, running 65 70 MPH, it never over boiled over, when I shut it off the gauge goes up to 190, then slowing over time comes down... I will do a combustion gas test, for a blown head gasket tues, or wed. but its a new gasket properly torqued down.
  13. I all Datsun lovers. I am having a problem with overheating on my b210, some background 74 B210 coupe, stock engine A13, new elec. dizzy, upgrade new upgraded rad, from a local shop 1 core to a 2 core stock rad. flows great like new. new thermostat, stant, 170. new water pump GMB. 60 series 5 spd trans upgrade, stock rear end. My problem is the car runs great overall, but heats up in hot weather, recent trip to SLO from San Jose CA and hit paso robles and got on the first H mark then turned heater on and dropped a 1/2 inch. drove home to 150 miles, at night 60 to 72 F and temp stayed right in the middle all the way driving 70 to 75 mph. I have a mechanical after market temp gauge and when idle it reachs 160 170 and stays right there, but the needle flutters... but when engine off, the needle moves fluidly up to 190 and then cools off. around down stays in the middle, but any load or hills, freeway the temp begins to climb... I am at a loss, the head is freshly rebuilt, values are lashed to the FSM 74! maybe air in the system...? spark plugs set to factory, stock carb. runs and idles like new, no misses, when it got hot, the gauge hit 215, system flushed, several times to clean out. new antifreeze, 60 water 40 concentrate. when I got the car cooling system had no thermo stat in it... rad was junk rust, got my 77 b210 one and had it rebuilt new cores and upgrade size..

  16. thanks for all the input from everybody, I did use the collar from the 56 trans, and was able to adjust the slave cylinder rod lock nut, ball nut. I got the free play out to specs 1 inch and the clutch worked great! and keep the mid plate, only thing is the spedo is off by 11 miles. I can live with that. just adjust speed accordingly.
  17. Hi all, I switched my trans out of my car from a the stock 4 speed 56 series. To a 60 series 5 speed, the clutch almost engages but still the trans grinds a little going into gear. the master and slave are not leaking. I have to pump the clutch pedal. to get full into gear with no grind or noise, clutch is good 25k only on it. fluid is clear and good. is the master going bad...??
