  1. .....load today. I made my first long drive today to dobbins ca. It was a 82 mile, one way, trip. I went to pick up a load of wood for free. I do not know whats funnier, the fact that it took equal amounts of gas to get there and back, or the look on the faces of other cars as I passed them at around 80 with a bed full of wood. I set my air bags to 32 psi and it rode great.

  2. I too have been pulled over and harassed. I am certified pre smog. I have the only 73 kc in cali lmao. I got the whole dot cop called on me. Until I tiold him my shit was a 73 then he looked at me and told me to get out of here. I do not give a shit what any cop says pre-smog is any motor I please and when cali changes that then I am out.

  3. Here is a great article on breaking in motors. This applies to ALL engines. 'Back in the day' this would kill a motor fast, but motors are different now. Your dad will say drive it easy for the first 500 miles. Wrong! Warm it up, make sure it is full of oil and tuned ready to go and LEAN ON IT!!!. Not 8,000 RPM shifts or anything. Just make that L WORK hard.

Anyway, read the article a couple of times.

Exactly. My builder told me to "drive it" change the oil every 100 for the first 500 then again at 1000 and it is done. I never babied it, yet I did not try to tear it up either. Btw I too have replaced a piston while it was in the truck.

  4. count me in.

Also I will take a head gasket to fit an L6 depending on how thick he can make them.

Ask if he can make them in 1mm 1.5mm and 2mm thick. I'll meet the minimum 5 order myself.

Heck I would like a head gasket for the L4 in 2mm too.

You got it. I will ask him as soon as he gets back to me. He did mention making any thickness and bore size needed. He also said if there is not one on file he will send you a thin wood pretest piece for you to verify its function.

  5. wouldnt this copper gasket RTV be better than plain silicone???

Yes that is what he suggests, I was not going to get very technical until I found out all the details. He actually said the one in your pic plus the spray on kind and a trick to refresh copper be heating the entire gasket and quenching it in water. Plus he stated that because it is soft a re torque will be important to create a perfect seal.

  6. Because it doesn't 'crush', will it seal the water passage into the intake???

I had a copper head gasket on my jet ski that did not crush and sealed both combustion and water jacket with no leaks and I reused it for two tear downs and 3 years. The u67 has no water jackets for the intake, well not on mine at least. They suggest a thin amount of silicone to help with metal imperfections, so it may hel;p with the water passage too. As soon as he calls me I will verify this to work with intake, exhaust and water.

  7. That's funny my little 520 max outs at about 60-65mph(that dam 4-speed)if i drop my motor in by then i'll be flying with a 5-speed.Unlees i bring the Syclone. But i'll roll with you,I'll call you today.

By all means give me a call. We can head out or you can roll with me. My truck has a .75 overdrive so it can hang at speed well.

  8. I decided to really tear into my dcnf and get the jets it has been needing. I bought a air cleaner that is solid aluminum. I am now running a 165 air corrector, down from a 185, and a 190 main, down from a 230. Wow is it quick. It pulls much harder at 5800 than before. I cannot wait until I can advance a bit more timing. Right now I am running around 22 deg full advance. I should be able to get away with 28 to 30. I had to learn the hard way what too much timing does to a LZ22, so I will have to be careful. Last time I broke a piston skirt.

  9. clayton,

Haha well then you haven't been to my place yet have you, lets say I have 13 cars, no I don't have an acre but I'm working on my wife about moving to a ranch so I can open up my own shop so I don't have to commute for work, working for someone else suck big weenie's. last time I had about 12 vr4s show up and parked according/respectfully to my neighboors around me so lets say I have room and entertainment, seems to me the ratsun bunch are a motley crue of guys that don't care what their rides look like as long as they run like stink, damn I.m predating myself now. Only good times here-being filipino I have years of entertaining if you know what I mean but this will be a BYOB ok ok enuff said lets have a good time, maybe I can enough people here so it can be a party/tech session as we used to call our breakdowns in the old norcal ufo days-wow those were the days of run what you brung and quit bitchin about life and all just enjot the ride, amybe we can organize a quick tour around my meck of the woods if you like also

Antioch is closer for me it would be a 68 dollar trip for gas. I might need to bring tools just in case lol. I really need to make a new throttle cable bracket. Maybe I will make one before I go. Maybe another sac guy would like to caravan there so it would not be so boring. Btw I hold about 75 or so being that it is only 3500 rpm. If we can decide on the day, do we all agree to meet in antioch? I say the third week in august which is either the 16th or the 17th. I am leaning more towards the 17th which is sunday. What do you guys think? It gives us all enough time to prepare.

  10. Vg30et end of srt gay. If you want to kick his ass and make him show a bit of respect do some minor suspension work and whop his azz in handling. It is some thing your car is naturally good at and his terrible at. Probably cheaper than any engine you could buy.

  11. First off what carb is on it? If you have the hitachi carb there is a little screen on the top of the carb at the fuel inlet. They get clogged and do exactly what you describe. My 720 did this once and it took me a while to figure it out, but once the screen was cleaned it was good as new.
