Lee R
Hot in Southern California right now a electric fan crapped out so I thought it was the relay. So I got another one and hooked it in. When I would switch on the fan (manual switch) the new relay would click. Turned the switch off and on again....click. No fan and now no click either. It is hooked up as the old relay was. Yellow from fan to battery negative. Black from battery negative to 85 on relay. Black from fan to 30 on relay. Manual switch from 87 on relay to positive battery. 86 from relay to switch. Help??? It's going to be close to 100 the next few days. Quote Link to comment
heretic
it seems to me you've got them mixed up a bit. on bosch-style relays when 12V is applied between pins 85 and 86 the coil becomes a magnet which pulls the lever down making a connection between pins 30 and 87. so..... 30- power source (+ at battery) 85- ground 86- switch 87- fan (in your case) Quote Link to comment
Lee R
Hmmmmm...it has always been hooked up the way I described and worked that way for at least a year. I just changed it to what you said and nothing happened. Not even a click. This morning when I first installed at least I had a click. Quote Link to comment
heretic
that click may have been the relay "frying" ... you said in your original post that the relay was no longer "clicking" pins 85 & 86 are interchangeable so that is "right" but your pins 87 & 30 are "backwards" the main power from the battery should "come in" 30 & "out" 87. I've never tried hooking them up backward to see if it functions properly. I'm sure current would flow but again I've never done this. Quote Link to comment

Lee R
Thanks dude. I'm horrible with even the simplest electrical stuff. I'll grab another relay off the Oreilly shelf tomorrow and try it out again. Quote Link to comment

Lee R
Well I got another relay and hooked it up. Still nothing....not even a click. The only other thing I can think of is bad wires?? Bad on/off switch? Cheese it!!! Quote Link to comment
Radim
Go back to your stock belt driven fan yo! :PI'll just go out on a whim here and say maybe the fan is bad?It is hot as balls though, been driving the truck with no hood for a couple of days... Hehe! Quote Link to comment
Lee R
I still have the stock fan! Just sitting at all these lights gets the temp above normal. No biggie, just more piece of mind. It's 102 at my house!! Quote Link to comment
