Milicent Bystander
I can't find a socket for the hub nut on my '81 4x4. Datsun tool #KV40102500 or any aftermarket listing. What have you used? The closest thing I can find is this Sunex 10202 tool for Isuzus; does anyone know if it will work? It needs to be torqued to over 100 foot pounds and I don't think a screwdriver and mini-sledge are going to cut the mustard. Quote Link to comment
kickstart
100 ft/lb? what nut ? Quote Link to comment
Milicent Bystander
The "lock nut" (my manual calls it) behind the locking hubs that holds all the wheel bearings in place. It's not hex shaped, it has eight slots in the outer edge. Unlike most hubs, bearing preload is set with different length collar shaped shims, and the nut (similar to a spindle nut) is always torqued to 108-145 ft lbs. Milicent Bystander
The Sunex tool for Isuzu works well enough. With only two tabs to engage the lock nut instead of the Nissan tool's four I couln't get to 100 ft lbs without it slipping off the nut, but the nut was chewed up a bit from someone using a chisle on it previously. Back on the road. Quote Link to comment
dreadsiren
realy? I found one right in the isle at my local napa, they have generic axle nut sockets... I'll grab mine tomorrow and get the mm's off it and a part number if I can. used it on my 82, I believe they have the same nut :) Quote Link to comment
