boxboy
I am looking for the serial number for my carb. Does it have one, or did Datsun only use one Nikki carb on the '68 520? Are there any options for new carbs without spending a fortune if mine craps out? Easy enough to do for a garage mechanic like myself? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
They had a serial number printed on them. Not stamped; long ago washed off. Every carb had a different serial number. You want the model number, but they only used one model Nikki in '68. It's a Nikki D2630A, though there were many subvariants. They also used a Hitachi. That's where the difference lies. The Hitachi was easier to get parts for, but now they're all difficult to get kits for except the L-series carbs. It's possible to convert to a Weber carb, but there is a serious clearance issue with the valve cover. I've seen adapters that offset a little, and I've seen folks use the DFV carb (instead of the DGV) to get the choke pull on the other side. It does mean getting creative with the throttle linkage. As for how much a "Fortune" is, Webers can be found new under $300 and used as little as $25. Quote Link to comment
boxboy
I read somewhere on this site that there is an MGB intake that is a direct bolt on for the J13 with the Weber carb. Can anyone confirm this? Anyone running it? Any problems with linkage? I have found a place in WA that makes these for the MGB and sells them with the carb for $300 or so. Quote Link to comment
