ServeEm
I have an opportunity to pick up a late 90s Maxima VG30 at a good price. No tranny, ecu, harness, etc. Just the engine. I'm worried that the mounts on the block might not be the same or usable period. I was hoping that it's the same mounting at like a 300zx or 200sx. That way I can pick up a 300zx trans and 200sx intake. Has anyone ever went this route. Thanks for your time! Quote Link to comment
mikelangelo11
Well i would like to run around 200 degrees to 220 degrees Fahrenheit. I like using a variable fan switch to aid in cooling the engine before it gets too hot and also, be sure there are good seals around the radiator to force that air through. If yours is an automatic use an after market cooler like a Hayden 404. I have one om my Maxima and it works to reduce transmission tempreature by over 50 degrees. Quote Link to comment

How is this relevant to the OP questions? Quote Link to comment

The intake, exhaust and motor mounts are different. You will be changing all of those anyway. Depending on the type of motor mounts you decide to use; build your own, Team Thump kit or Experimental Engineering (VG30.com) kit. The Team Thump kit uses the liquid filled motor mounts designed for the VG30 found on the 300ZX and 200SX. The VG30.com kit uses the stock 510 motor mounts. There are probably a few other differences like oil filter placement, oil dipstick placement and accessory mounting brackets. The blocks should have the same bosses in them to accept the brackets from the RWD VG30 stuff. Quote Link to comment

Thanks for the reply, Yea I got in touch with David Carroll from Experimental Engineering and he set me straight on the compatiblity of the fwd to rwd components. I gotta mention that he was very helpful and quick on his responses. He said for the most part everything will bolt up. He did mention the flywheel is too large so I'll have to swap it out. Also the crank snout might be an issue as well with the accesories. If there are any other experiences people have had with a vg swap please do share. Thanks!! Quote Link to comment
