521 fuel tank.

what

Recommended Posts

I Drive my 521 every day. I fuel up once a week. I am thinking of putting in a 15-20 gallon tank in it. What iam thinking about doing is measuring the distance between the frame rails in the back. I have a 70 nova and it has the factory rear mounted gas tank. To fuel the nova you fold down the liscense plate. I dont see why i couldnt put a nova or other large capacity fuel tank between the frame rails in the back and mount a liscense plate with the hinges for fueling. Anybody done anything similar?

I built a aluminum fuel tank for my 720 exactly as you described. I used a std filler cap I bought from jegs and I cut a hole in the floor of my bed and put a hinge on it so you could hardly see it. If you buy the materials I'd be willing to help ya do this aluminum or stainless steel is the best choice and then you just adapt the stock fuel sender. Takes a while to do,but extra fuel capacity is nice in these little trucks.

Iam gonna have to get a liscence plate bracket with the hinges so i can lift the plate to fuel it. Shouldnt be a big deal. Iam looking at the 1979 bronco 25 gallon tank. But iam might have to mount a electrical fuel pump to transfer the fuel the extra distance from the rear of the pickup? Not sure. The stock fuel pump might not have a problem.
