par10
Hey all, I'm only new to this site, i'm from Queensland, Australia and i've got 2 521's. I've been a Datsun fan for years now, but these are the first ones i've owned. The first one i picked up is a tray back, country vehicle, dead straight with NO rust. Only had to pay to get it towed away. It is a 1968 1300 model, and will be the car i'm using for my restoration. The second one i've just picked up (see photos) is going to be the donor pick-up, it is a 1970 1500. I will be using the tub, along with the front bar, valance and possibly the grille etc, as its a bit better than the other pick-up. My plans for the project are to build a nice cruiser that can still keep up with traffic. I will be painting it a metallic orange (from the Lamborghini Gallardo, see photo), redo the interior mostly standard, in black. I want to do a 5 stud conversion, due to the larger choice of wheels and better brake options, any help/ideas on how to do this would be much appreciated. I plan on running 18" black multispoke wheels with a polished lip (see photo). I've already started with my engine conversion. I will be running a L28 with triple Dellorto's, head work, big cam and strong bottom end. This will be backed by a rebuilt close ratio 4 speed from a 240k. To anyone that says the L6 engine don't fit in 521's obviously don't try hard enough. I've test fitted it in the bay prior to bodywork. All i've really had to modify is the radiator support. I will be relocating the radiator under the support panel, using a custom slim alloy radiator. It is a VERY tight fit, but the firewall wasn't modified at all. Just need to make up some engine mounts and a gearbox mount and it'll be done. Minor mods were required on the trans tunnel, but it wasn't hacked apart. Not sure on what to do diff wise yet, i am hoping to run something like a modified Toyota Hilux unit, which should work well with the 5 stud conversion. i hope you guys can help me out a bit with this build, and in return i hope to be able to help some of you guys out. Also wondering how many Australian members are floating around, as i've only ever seen a couple of 521's over here. Any help or advise is very welcome, as i'm still learning about these lovely pick-ups. Many thanks to all, Nick. Quote Link to comment
