  1. Check it out: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/2216826402.html

  3. Besides hub caps, I seem to recall the front grill changing and the rear brakes going from all red to red/amber. It's been years though.
  4. Check this out: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/pts/2081137087.html This is sad, it looks perfectly fine: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/2082660559.html
  5. Are you referring to the Crown Manufacturing tutbo kit? They don't make them anymore. My brother may still have the kit but I doubt the Rayjay turbo works. You would be better off replacing it with a decent brand T3/T4 ball-bearing turbo. I'll see if he still has it in the box. I gave him my truck with it on.
  6. Actually I only installed a kit on a 74 620. It was from Crown Manuacturing in Newport Beach. That kit was good quality and before Ebay. I blew the motor up because I didn't know the relationship between boost and an open exhaust :) It was fun while it lasted. I have installed three different turbos on the MR2. I haven't found the right combination of flow characteristics for the 2.2 liter stroker motor. I had this in it for a while but pulled it because it didn't have enough bottom end torque: http://i1207.photobu...strokerdyno.jpg http://i1207.photobu...trokerbuild.jpg By-the-way, nice write-up about the restoration of your 521.
  7. Missing the point. Newbie asked where to start. The kit would give him a starting point. He could even buy a used turbo kit and toss the turbo. I've installed three different turbos on my MR2, two on my Supra, and a turbo kit on a 74 Datsun truck. Did them all to go faster. Can I ask how many you have installed?
  8. They apparently still sell turbo kits for the 510: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DATSUN-510-ALL-YEAR-T3-T4-TURBO-CHARGER-TURBO-KIT-/250534220241?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a5500d1d1 You will need a exhaust mainfold and downpipe. A good muffler shop should be able to fabricate these. One in Oakland did years ago. You will need to put in lower compression pistons. Some of my MR2 friends have used thicker head gaskets. When I installed a turbo kit years ago on a 74 Datsun pickip, air was drawn through the carb. It worked fine.
  9. I used to have a 74 Datsun truck (L18 engine) that I installed a trubo kit from Crown something. I blew up the engine (no blow-off valve back then), but it was a blast to drive. It didn't have much turbo lag and it would simply launch. It was a turbo kit on a stock motor (not a hig-compression SS). I currently have three turbo cars and they are all low compression (8.2 - 8.5). Back then kits were crude and there were no electronics. Today's cars dance around engine pre-ignition (knocking) by retarding ignition and or dumping fuel; they are always pushing the limit. Oh, by the way, the engine died from piston ring failure. Probably pre-ignition in the cylinder.
