  1. It's true. I'm suggesting that before you buy (or if you find out a friend bought) parts in the near future you take a look at them. If it's a Datsun guy that one of us knows then he has a built in clientele here. If you don't know it's stolen then it's certainly not on you if you buy it. If you suspect it might be parts that belong to someone else and still buy... you're making yourself part of the Karmic payback. Eugene used to have a couple guys that would end up with way too many cool parts compared to their paycheck. Eventually they got caught breaking into a Subaru-only JY and stealing LSD diffs. Always felt guilty that we all put up with them even though we suspected them. Kelvin
  2. What worries me is that this was likely a Datsun guy. Quite possibly someone one of us knows. Tweakers take stereos and Ipods and tools and bike racks. Teakers don't take Wink Mirrors and spooks. They don't break into a Datsun without damaging the door lock or ignition switch. That's someone who has a few Datsun keys laying around. This guy knew Datsuns. He knew which wires to jump to keep it running. Keep an eye out for that slightly ratty spook. A few cracks and while it was cream it's probably painted flat black by now. Old style Yakima Raptor bike rail. The little flippy lock lever is almost pink from sun damage. Probalby dime a dozen out there, though. The Yak rail tubes were cut SHORT. Not likely they're going to fit any new cars 510 roofs are narrow. And let's not be sharing any good kill switch options HERE. Email your ideas to someone who wants to know. I have a couple good ones already but there might be a really great one out there. Kelvin
  3. Tired 1800 with a Weber. Has a stereo, of course. There really isn't anything special about the car. Just a nice collection of decent parts.
  4. >Can you post any specifics, w/ pics, of your car? Such as parts and what not. I'm guessing it will chopped up. 5th post of the thread... Chris' 510 was stolen from his apartment parking lot early this morning. Someone figured they needed it more than he did, I guess. Dull Ivory paint. Locked Yakima Racks that did have a bike rail on them (probably gone by now) Door frame mounted mirrors. Gray Toyota seats. Oregon License plate: NET 291 http://datsun510.com...ck_Frames_2.jpg http://datsun510.com...php?photo=23891 http://datsun510.com...php?photo=24494 Nothing particularly special but a collection of parts and much time to bring a car back that was headed to the Junkyard.
  5. >Kill switches should be used in conjunction with a relay so that they disable multiple functions, that way butt fu** dope heads cant just run a lead wire to your coil, starter or whatever. You can bet I'll be looking for a better way. It's not quite so dangerous to own a 510 here in Eugene. Just sorta figured I had Chris covered with the kill switch that was there. >I hope they're shot dead on the street and buried in a shallow grave.... worthless piece of sh** ... then you get to collect money from their family for any damage done to your car .... Ya Ya Ya I know its extreme but do you know anyone that would steal a car if those were the consequences? I didnt think so. I'm not a violent man but I have to agree. And I hope someone would be there to stop me. My 46¢ Kelvin
  6. Not that it's necessary, I'm sure, but a buddy from Staten Island offered a $50 reward for the return of the car. Very cool of him, I think. Since he's doing this I figured I should at least match it. $100 reward - and if we actually get hold of the dirtbag... well.... > Everyone - I am pledging $50 to a fund to get Chris' (Kelvin's son) car > back. The reward will be for the *intact* recovery of the car. It has > been seen driving around, and I just don't want to encourage the knuckle > head who stole it from torching it and then having a friend claim the > reward. > > In the event that two or more "teams" lead to the recovery the reward > will be split. Finial judgement is up to the Dietz's. > > If you see the car, follow at a distance and call 911. Do not attempt to > chase which could cause an accident. Remember the idea is to recover the > car intact. > > Steve Joseph > Doing the only thing I can do from here in NY
  7. The same wiring I've used for 30+ years and that has foiled people in the past. I can't figure out how they could possibly have gotten the car going, honestly. You can bet if we get it back that I'm going to figure it out. And no mention made of the kill switch because we really don't want anyone knowing out it. Datzenmike is right, of course. Running around in a decent 510 without a kill switch is foolish. But everyone knows that so they're going to look for it right away. Hiding it is another thing. And when you hide it well and it still doesn't work?! Add another one, dammit. If they catch these douchbags I would hope they give us names. I have dozens of ways of getting even that don't leave a mark. You know they won't spend much time in jail...
  8. He might be busy chasing things. Hopefully he doesn't mind me posting his phone number. Chris is at 541-520-1341
  9. I know you guys caught a 510-stealing dirtbag a couple years ago. The advantage of lots of Ratsun dudes in P-town and surrounding area.
