  1. I know this has been covered before but, other than a ka24e/de, what other “newer” engines could be a candidate for an engine swap? We all know the ka’s are the easiest but as stated before, they’re getting harder to find. Also, finding parts for these engines are getting harder and harder. I saw someone doing a VQ swap on a hardbody, so stands to reason it could work on a 720 as well. Not saying I would do one but, there have to be other engine options for our trucks. It'd be nice to just get some genuine ideas rolling.
  2. Thank you…. I had seen in another thread that someone recommended swapping the upper and lower control arms off a D21 and using the drop spindles. However, like I had said, there’s no confirming wether said person did that or not, and no one has confirmed wether that would work. I would love to replace everything with new suspension, and if the D21 front suspension works, why not? It would probably make things easier in the long run. Plus I’d like to change over to D21 calipers and rotors….. if it fits without modifying.

    Drop Spindles

I have a question. I’ve been searching all over the forum and I haven’t been able to find a concrete answer anywhere. What all do I have to do to install drop spindles on a 720?.. I have an 84 rwd 720. It needs wheel bearings. I’ve also been wanting to lower it, so I figured now would be the perfect time to do it all. What all would I need to install drop spindles? If someone could give me a list of what I’ll need, and any tips, I would appreciate it!!
  4. Thanks Mike…. I’ll save my money and continue to look for a ka24e. I’m in no rush so, I’ll slowly get the things I need so that when I the time comes to make the swap, it won’t turn into a nightmare.
  5. The more I think about it, the more I research, the more I’m convinced that, unless I can do it myself or have tons of money, I should just leave it alone lol I think that’s why I would rather have my engine rebuilt, and turboed. Or at the very least, find another z24 and rebuild it and turbo it. I have found several around my area. It would probably be cheaper. Especially if I do a blowthrough turbo setup?
  6. So I’m basically stuck with what I got….. If I were already going to pay someone to rebuild my engine, might as well pay someone who knows what they’re doing to swap an engine into my truck. Like I said, engines are getting expensive and are more than likely going to require some fab work. I have a 98 gt mustang that is perfectly fine, but I don’t drive bc my 720 is my dream vehicle. I was thinking of swapping all of that into it. However I figured it’d be too big and complicated, that it would cost me an arm and leg. What engine would ya’ll recommend swapping into the 720, that would probably be easier than others? Something from the 2000’s or newer? And would my best route be to buy a whole vehicle that runs and swap what’s in one, to the other?
  7. I have a question that’s along the lines of this post. Maybe several questions. My 720 also has the z24. It runs great, maybe leaks a bit of oil around the valve cover, but I have a gasket to replace it soon. My truck is what it is, it ain’t no race car, but it bugs the crap out of me when I get passed over by a Honda Fit, or Chevy Spark. If I could I would put in a stronger engine in. However, not only am I not mechanically knowledgeable, but it seems like almost anything I would try to put in will require lots of work and a lot of money. I’ve looked into putting a ka24e, but there aren’t any around my area for a good price. Seems like everyone’s doing swaps nowadays that all engines are expensive. Besides, I don’t mind my z24. They’re simple enough that someone like me could do some work on it without requiring a masters in space technology. My question is, could I do a simple turbo setup? There’s a machine shop next to where I work and they can rebuild my engine for about $1200 bucks. Would it be better to go that route? Invest my money in the engine I already have and just do a simple turbo build? I’m only looking into gaining maybe 20-40 hp? Something that would help my truck leave a stoplight faster without getting passed by a Prius. I don’t think the turbo would need to make more than 4-7 psi? I’m researching as much as I can but it seems like everyone is only interested in making hundreds of hp. I just want a faster daily lol
  8. Yes my bad, dash lights. They don’t come on at all. Everything else works just fine. Just the dash lights and headlights won’t come on. Dash lights since the I bought it, headlights just recently. Man thank you! I’ll try all those things tomorrow and see what happens.
  9. Hey Mike, you are very knowledgeable, so one more question. My interior lights won’t come on just the dome light, and just recently my headlights stopped working as well. I checked the two fuses on the fuse block and they seem fine. I also replaced the headlight relay. Yet nothing seems to make my light come on. The blinkers and marker lights work just fine. This is the whole reason for me wanting to replace my combination switch. Is there anything else I could be missing? Is there a way to test to see if it’s even the combination switch? I don’t mind shelling out $180 for a new one, but if I don’t have to, I’d rather not.
  10. Yes I think I can attach the steering wheel to it without the large nut. I think it’s original. I pulled the original steering wheel off and this was there haha, but thank you. I’ll try that when I get home today.
  11. Thanks Mike. I’ve loosened it, but that big metal piece is in the way still.
  12. Hello everyone! Been visiting this site for great advice. However there’s one thing I can’t find anywhere online. How do I remove my combination switch? This is a picture. It’s from my 84 720. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
