  1. True, its understandable that a 40 year old part would be expensive, but when a new water pump for a 510 is 15 bucks, it seems pretty like crazy money.
  2. I would do that, but my electrical system is in need of some pretty serious service before anything electrical works reliably. I don't think that would go well.
  3. Is the car on the top of this forum a real machine, or just art? and also, is that you exhaust placement even possible... cause it looks cool as hell.
  4. I think their longevity varies a lot with how well they are treated. Mine's only got 186,000, and I have had to rebuild, the front and rear brakes, replace the clutch slave and master, and do the head gasket. And I am pretty sure I am the fifth guy to do it...
  5. Wow. I am amazed that a little hinge costs so much. Seems like highway robbery to me, especially when so many parts are inexpensive on 510's. If I had any latches to start with, I'd do that, but my car has no latch or any latch components of any kind, just empty screw holes. I take that there aren't any readily available alternatives to the new factory latches? Aftermarket parts or bits of other old Jap cars that will work?
  6. Not necessarily, I am looking for an alternative to the outrageously expensive stock ones. I was hoping someone would point me in the direction of another source for the part, or a way of fabricating or modifying another part to fit my car. Also, I was wondering whether $100 a set was a normal price for the latches.
  7. Well, I wasn't really intending to post a wanted add, I was more hoping for advice. Am I misunderstanding the purpose of this forum section?
  8. I am looking for a pair of rear window latches for a 510 2door. I have seen some on ebay for 50$ apiece, and I am not willing to spend that much. Is there a cheaper place to get them? or maybe another widely available latch that will work? I am not looking for pretty or perfect, but I need something better than a bungee cord to keep my windows from flapping around. :) Torin
  9. I pulled the head a second time, and put a new Felpro gasket on it. Doesn't leak a drop now. Pretty weird. I guess it must have been a defective gasket. Thanks everyone for your help. This makes one more 510 2dr back on the road.
  10. There are no cracks in the head, that was checked at the shop. Also, coolant leaks out of both the left and right sides of the head, all the way along it, so it is certainly not the intake leaking, and I doubt one crack could leak this much water in so many places. All sealing surfaces were cleaned. The block was also checked for warpage, and was within tolerances. Alignment dowels were in place, and the head went down nicely.
  11. Hello all, I have encountered a very strange problem with my '69 510. Its stock L16 had a blown head gasket, So I replaced with one from Rock. I made sure to torque the headbolts to spec, and I had the head resurfaced at a machine shop. I started it for the first time today, and it ran well, but it leaked coolant from everywhere around the head; back and left and right sides. I cant explain it. Can anyone here shed some light on why? Torin
