Anyone know why my z24 would sputter after the ignition is shut off. Acts like it is still getting some spark still after shut down.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and help with my project. The engine started today and is getting timed and checked out. Couldn't have done it with out the Ratsun community. I'm sure I'll be back!

So, I think I just figured out that I swapped in a z24 engine from a D21 hard body into my 81 720 pick up. I was having the hardest time finding a matching distributor for this engine and it was because I was searching under 720s. I found a reman dist for a 1986 d21 for $240 bucks. This should work right?! I just have this feeling that I walking into a dead end project here. Boy, do I wish I had gotten an engine from another 720 4x4.

I just finished an engine swap in my 720 pickup. I took out the Z22 and put in a Z24. All is well so far, except that I won't know if it runs until I get a distributor for the z24. I am 'selling' the z22 (which needs some work) and some aux parts. I can send pics of what I have. I need a distributor and cap for the z24 ASAP. I am excited about starting this thing up! Ok, so first off, I am totally unqualified for this project. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Here's my problem: I have pulled the old Z22 engine from my truck and I have been getting the used z24 engine I bought ready to put in. So far I have taken from the Z22 both manifolds, the alternator and bracket, and the water pump and put them on the Z24 with no problems. I was going to do the same with the distributor only to find that it will not work with the Z24. So, here's the question: Have I been wasting my time? Do I have to use all Z24 parts? If the distributor is different, will it work with the carb, manifold, and electrical of the z22?! What about the fly wheel, air assembly, and power steering?

Its not the PCV valve. I need the filter that fits into the air cleaner unit. The shop manual calls it the PCV 'filter'. So far, napa and carquest don't carry them.

I'm having a hard time finding a PCV filter and AIV filter for a 1981 720. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the info! I am planning on buying a z24 and swapping out my z22. The warranty is a lot better and the work seems do-able for a first timer. I will probably be on here later with questions as I work through it. Thanks so far!

Thanks for the all the help so far. I went ahead and filled out my profile. I am pretty sure I'm going to do a whole engine swap. I found a z24 with a good warranty and price tag. I have a z22 installed now. Anything I should watch out for with a switch to a z24? I'm also looking for buckets seats and window crank (i snapped the knob off trying to crank the window up, should have fixed the regulator when I noticed it the first time :( )

Been getting a lot of oil in the air cleaner. My mechanic diagnosed it as blow-by and the only remedy is a rebuild or swap. The truck only has 150,000 miles, so I'm considering it. Are engines available for this truck? Can you upgrade to a newer engine with more HP? I love this truck, but not made of money. Thinking about doing the swap myself with friends and their shop.
