I just rebuild the Z24 out of my 84 720 and I am trying to figure out the timing. It runs and drives now but pops and misfires quite often. I saw on alldata that the spec is 3 degrees BTDC. I made sure my vacuum advance was disconnected and plugged and checked to see what it was set at. It was at 15 BTDC and I tried to retard it but the distributor hold down bolts maxed out at 11 degrees BTDC. I took the oil pump out to retime the distributor but I wasn't able to change anything. Any ideas or write ups about how to fix this. Im guessing it is just going to be messing with the oil pump drive gear position? Thanks in advance.
I finally figured out why my 84 720 has not been running... The dowel on the cam that fits into the hole on the cam gear fell out therefore the cam was not spinning. Is there any way to put the small dowel back in or do I have to get a whole new cam?
It turns out that was it! Thanks for getting back to me so quick, i really appreciate it! It was just barely open and i messed with the throttle linkage and it went right down. I also have another question i will post on here rather than starting a new topic... I had my carb rebuilt and i noticed that the air/fuel screw is just a plug and not adjustable. Can i somehow get it out and put in a screw so i can adjust it? Im running really rich and i hate watching my fuel guage go from full to empty in the blink of an eye!
So i just replaced my cam gear, timing chain, guides and tensioner and when i started it, it would rev up until i turned off the key. I checked to make sure the throttle on the carb was not stuck open and it wasnt. I have no idea what it could be, any ideas?
Thanks a lot! Is there an online manual or tutorial or somewhere i could find how to assemble everything behind the timing cover, like the distributor?
I got an engine that the timing gears, chain and anything else was not marked when disassembled and i was wondering how i could time the engine without having previously marked everything. I have only pulled off the timing cover and i will be replacing the guides, tensioner, gears and chain.
Thanks
Thanks! I have no idea they came on the truck when i got it, but if you google nissan 720 mirrors it comes up with some similar ones. Ebay has some like that too!
Well the lights on my 720 arent very good and if there is one thing i like when im driving at night it is bright lights! What could i do to make my lights incredibly bright? Are there aftermarket lights i could buy?
