  1. this is the dash i reupholstered. I tore off all the old foam and vinyl and drilled out those metal brackets and wraped it in some 1/2 inch thick foam and covered with vinyl. i kept the ash tray out though my windshield is cracked pretty bad from the tornado we had here in windsor co. I have been searching the web for a cheap one. At first i only found some as low as $635.00 but i found a new website and found one as low as $180.00. Very Noice!Check it out if you're hunting for one too at http://account.autoglasshosting.com/nswizard/?acct=windshi I still need a front bumper and i found some fiberglass fenders and a hood from a website called up22.com. You guys should check it out.
  2. I got sick of looking at my dash too and decided it was time for a change. I first removed it and then tore off the old cracked vinyl and foam all the way to the metal. I gave it a quick sanding for some all purpose spray adhesive. I took a drill to the two metal pieces on the ends of the dash, you will find these once you tear the vinyl/foam off. Just flip the dash over and drill out the little spot welds. I then got some half inch foam from a fabric store and some black marine vinyl. I sprayed the top of the dash and the foam with the adhesive. Make sure to get the front of the dashso the foam makes a 90 degree angle before you cut it. I then sprayed the top of the foam and the back of the vinyl and laid the dash/foam on the vinyl face down. I'm sure you guys could figure the rest out. It just takes some manipulating with the vinyl but I got enough for two dashes just in case i didn't like the first results, and aquire some practice. It only costed about 30 bucks for all of that. just wanted to help and give anyone out there some pointers. I'll post some pics later so you can see how it looks and you can be the judge. i think it gives it more of a classic look.
  3. I also have a 521 i just bought, the guy i bought it from also gave me a dogleg and an l20 block that needs a little work, he says that the dogleg will only fit on the l20, but i keep hearing people say it should mount any L series. I'm not sure if he said there was something different with the fly wheel or what, and since you have completed the swap i was wondering if you could let me know. Other then that, I heard the only modification is the transmission mount or crossmember, if you could let me know about that also, that'd be great. Thanks, Lerin
  4. here is a pic of it. its a mallory case, model number 2558901, i searched it and it said it was for an L series 4cyl. it just has the red and black wires coming out of it. it has the pertronix ignitor with 44u-v4 on the top. there is no vacuum adavance on it, i dont know if that matters or not. let me know what you guys think or know. thanks for all the feed back everyone. This is a great place to learn your stuff. thanks again.
  5. i have pretty much already tried that and it didnt work. is someone able to post a pic of how theirs looks along with some wire diagrams
  6. I just purchased a 1970 521 from a friend (this is my 3rd datsun, i have owned 2 280zx's turbo with motorsports aero kits). I picked up the truck for about 600 with lots of other parts and was told that the ei dist is a direct swap. When i removed the points dist the rotor was facing toward the engine and when i installed the elec ig the rotor was pointing the complete opposite way. I changed the spark plug wires around to match up where the points would face, played with the advance and retard but couldnt get anything. I need someone to help me or tell me what i am not doing right. I have been all over the web trying to find instructions on how to install but no one says how. is it just that simple and i am thinking to far into it, or do i need a new coil, resistor etc or lack there of. Please help.
