  1. what is best option to fix exhausts , where the manifold meats pipe the joint some idiot tried to cut slots into the metal on metal seal, and put in a donut that was carved up real Bull crap job, if some one had researched that part i bet they would not have modded it in way that has happened. so i think i need to fix but would like to know if there is common way to get the flanged end so i can make a good seal with the stock exhaust manifold? or is finding one in junk yard or dato enthusiast the best option? brakes should be good to go soon , put all the brake parts on order except the hard lines , so as long as they have not developed leaks i will not have to replace the hardlines, if they have failed then will have make my own. got the truck started and seems to be running about as good as it was when i last drove it, rather fix brakes at place it sits right now, cause the price of brake parts is cheaper then the rates i been quoted to get truck an trailer or dolly . along with fact i am not really supposed to fix my car where i live , but do have buddy that let me use his drive way if i need to.
  2. trying track down some one i know with truck and tow hitch. not sure i could afford to do it any other way at moment. can afford trailer rental, just do not have vehicle with tow hitch, or be able afford that right now. i will figure something out, even if it means i rebuild the brakes where it sits, so in other words i must wait and save the pennies where ever i can.
  3. it's about 40 miles one way to where i am from were truck is. plan thus far is get to truck and evaluate the present state of road worthyness . tires , lights, brakes long as fronts have not siezed up it had front brakes, the rear wheel cylinders one was seized when parked it . what is the easiest way to get the old gas in tank out of it ? should i worry about cleaning old gas outta carb ? what might be the differences between 1978 620 FSM vs 1979 620 FSM ?
  4. so i was getting ready to go pick my truck up and it had not run in over 6 years. i was wondering what you all might suggest i do when i go to get the truck and attempt to drive it back to where i am. so far on the list is change fluids in tranny, rear end, motor, . remove gas tank and clean it out, then try to flush fuel lines and replace some fuel filters, then when parked needed a new wheel cylinder. i would like to know the most vital things since cash will be tight. also need to get to bottom of carb issue i was having before i parked it. to have the truck where i live i need it to run at least well nuff to move to another space occasionally, last i started it it would do that much.
  5. had some one look at my truck , when they hooked up multimeter, ya could see alternator was charging at 16.8-18 v at times, and when the voltage spiked relays in the really pack would make bad noises, and the idle would drop and truck would die with out throttle. so they gave me alternator to install so gonna do that tomorrow, and see if it changes the truck into decent running and idling truck well as dash light not be on and not worry bout blowing up battery. . on other hand appears this hitachi carb is hosed, so guess i will be saving for a weber dgev kit.
  6. appears to be the normal thing but my buddy the lets get it done now type, fucked it up. so now i need get new exhaust down tube. lol live learn, what i learned, don't let your buddy do things till ya truly know he knows what he doing lol.
  7. They Couldn't stand seeing 2 classic datos in the alley, DATSUN HATERZ!!!
  8. DAMN them coppers don't they got methheads or some real criminals to bother.
  9. looked at truck should the window on carb have fuel visible think seen lil at bottom? took for drive yesterday when came to light and let idle it would just bout die if i did not rev it. the one time it died it started right back up. noticed some thing odd, when i ran the inductive timing light on each of the 4 wires all flashed constantly other then the cylinder nearest fire wall, this is odd cause i not too long back replaced the rotor bug, and cap, and wires made sure all connections where tight as best as i could with the wires on cap and plug ends. some one suggested loose accelerator cable. is there adjuster or do i just take up slack at end attaching to carb ? as there any good way to test coil ? accel pump seems operational.
  10. so are all l20b likely to have this setup? i ask cause the pick n pull has a 75 pretty sure it had l20b stamped on it. and exhaust system in decent shape. has anyone seen the truck at lakewood pick n pull in last few weeks ?
  11. Well hope ya do not mind me saying me too. i was thinking same thing about datsun mechanic and puyallup, peirce county. thanks for suggestions . my issue lil diff but datsun mechanic still applicable.
  12. I have a 79 620 i need get exhaust donut, only thing guys at parts store had to offer me was the flat gasket that has 2 exhaust holes and 3 bolts. so i am wondering if some one could tell me the specs for that doughnut as to what size i would need or the doorman part number for compatible doughnut ? the original one was no where to be found.
  13. the truck is a 1979 620 , iirc it does not have the lil window, but when i get outside during daylight will look it over.
  14. today i took the ol datsun 620 for a drive, after buddy rebuilt my carb, idle is lil high need to readjust that. but the most troubling thing to me was sitting at the light and it idled lower and lower till it died, and when i got it to start i had to pump like crazy till it fired, then from there hold throttle down petal to the metal and it sputtered but slowly reved up all this while it was not in gear(underload). i am thinking there is something up with fuel delivery, i wanted to ask you what you all thought I should check? so far i am thinking possible issues are, clogged fuel line maybe in tank, maybe weak fuel pump, or perhaps accelerator pump diaphragm since the kit did not have one? would love to put some more miles on my dato.
  15. well if i remember talk to tire guy he might give me tube if not got a few bicycle ones so i might as well try that maybe some zip ties to hold it together long nuff to get the hoop on it, if that does not work will get hose clamps thanks for the help. i wanna drive my dato round some
