  1. Yea I'm not sure. I changed the oil in it when I first bought it and it was very soon after I began getting coolant in the oil. So figured I'm going to be that far into the engine so I might as well rebuild it. My dad had a d21 with this engine back in the day so he was pretty confident in his ability to work on it. We have got the new pistons and rod bearing installed, and I had the head completely gone through. The crankshaft looks amazing so I don't believe it could have been this way for long.
  2. Thomas could you link the part on eBay? I cant seem to find the listing.
  3. I'm guessing they have updated the design a bit. Mine was originally (or at least to me) three separate pieces. A spring, ball, and keeper pressed into the block. I can see how this part would still fit into and function the same way just as an all in one. Or maybe mine just exploded and I'm just seeing the expanded view lol.
  4. My dad and I are rebuilding my 1986 Nissan 720's Z24 engine that had blown a head gasket at 208,000 miles. We have just discovered what appears to be a check ball to stop oil flowback just laying in the oil filter housing. We went to the junkyard today to have a look at another K24 and discovered that mine is missing a "keeper" or something along those lines to keep the ball and spring in their hole. Do they sell this part? Is this a common problem? Could I potentially remove it from the junkyard motor? Am I making any sense at all? I'm not even sure what to call this thing. All this being said I have gotten a lot of help from this forum and would appreciate any information on this topic.
  5. Thanks for the help! I've got a couple more questions. There doesn't seem to be a breather on the transmission. There is a plastic piece that fits down in it but nothing else. I've looked online and can't seem to find any breathers online. I'm also having trouble with finding a replacement break pedal return spring. Mine broke and I can't seem to find replacements.
  6. Any ideas on how to wire the neutral safety switch?
  7. My 86 720 came with an automatic that is junk now. My dad and I are swapping it to the 5speed stick. Is there anything we should know or be prepared for? We have the auto trans out and the pilot bushing installed so far. I'm just worried that there is something we will miss that might be a well known problem when swapping.

    Oil additives.

I'm about to change the oil on my 86 for the first time since I've owned it. Is there any additive suggestions? I've heard of people adding zinc to older engines oil, I just don't know if the 2.4 would require that or not
  9. I hope your right. I'll try the things you have suggested. The plugs and wires are new so theoretically it shouldn't be that. I know it has some vacuum problems because the previous owner has some things miss matched, such as the vacuum advance tied in to the intake and not the carb. It does run pretty well when cold but it struggles to idle when warm.
  10. Hello, I just purchased an 86 720 that has transmission problems. Basically it has an automatic trans and at the least the torque converter is out. The moment you put it in drive it throws it in first and will kill the motor if you don't get going immediately. The vehicle came with a 5 speed manual trans to swap, but I would like to keep it original and just fix or replace the automatic. It seems like I am in a minority with that kind of thinking lol. I can't seem to find any shops to rebuild the trans or any that can get a re-man trans. Am I better of just trying to swap the 5 speed in or is there a reasonable solution to putting in an auto?
