  1. heres a quick rundown, im a 16yr old from the middle of australia who recently started teaching myself how to fix the L16 in my Off-Road buggy. took about 2 months and been making youtube videos on it with the newest one being it running. i was so fuckin happy to hear that thing run as i hadnt heard it for 6 years, however, it decided to be a cunt again and now i gotta rip the head off and check for cracks etc. bitter-sweet. anyway the videos are fucking awesome and have been blowing up recently so if you want to check em out heres the link to the newest one which is it running
  2. not sure, we put some fuel in the carbs and cranked it over but still got nothin, got a loud as backfire from im assuming the exhuast tho, people telling me the dizzy is 180 degrees out
  3. Alright Ive tried cranking it over but the fucker won't start, it cranks but doesn't start, were getting sparks to plugs, coil etc Was cranking and spraying aerostart down into the intakes but nothing. Also shorted the fuel pump straight to the battery but didn't do anything (new fuel pump I'm guessing) But yea what can I do? Really want to hear her goin
  4. Rightyo New gaskets are here Which way does the manifold gasket go? There's a flat side and a rounded side, guessing flat side to head? Also should I get some RTV sealant to go on either side of manifold gasket? It was in there when I took it apart so just triple checking Cheers fellas
  5. righto ive read over this thread several times now and finally understand what you mob are saying what gaskets do you guys recommend? found an Endurotec set (which is what i originally put on but ive heard people say they're shit + its made of a felt like material) for $36 https://www.autosurplus.com.au/head-gasket-for-nissan-datsun-1600-180b-200b-blueb~19320 OR i found an identical metal 'Monotorque' head gasket to the original that was on there for years for $27 https://www.autosurplus.com.au/head-gasket-for-nissan-datsun-1600-180b-200b-blueb~11962 and a 'viper performance' double faced steel exhaust/intake gasket for $18 https://www.performanceexhaust.com.au/p/Nissan-Other/NISSAN-1600-180B-200B-L16-L18-L20-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD/DSF015 just wanted to see what the professionals recommend
  6. that would be very nice sir, thank you would that fuck anything up tho?
  7. @Stoffregen Motorsports haha yea i just tried gettin it up as fast as i could cos i was freaking out, guess i made a new one instead of just goin to the old one. sorry bout that
  8. @banzai510(hainz) the story goes... got the buggy in 2013 took out bush couple of times 4 year ago took it out for a spin, it overheated and found coolant in oil (hence why i was replacing head gasket) it then sat in a shed since a couple weeks ago when i started ripping it apart im gonna stop posting shit here til saturday when im actually at the buggy and not having to worry about teachers telling me off for being "off topic" cheers really appreciate it fellas speak to ya soon
  9. yea sweet, ill try get a video on here of where the coolant (water?) was pissin out of, i thought of tightening the exhaust/intake bolts but i dont know how it would get into the pistons though cos the head gasket was perfectly lined up and when i got the feeler gauges and straight edge out the head wasn't warped, . ill order a new exhaust/intake gasket and when i put it on get some of that potties surface and use a thin layer of that on each side. still dont know where the exhaust flange gakset goes though. gonna call over my mechanic mate on the weekend who actually knows what hes doin and see what he reckons is the problem.
  10. Sweet thank heaps fellas🙏 I'm goin' back next weekend and I'll try sort it out. There was some fat washers that bolted the exhaust to the block whilst securing the intake at the bottom but my guess is non of em were on tight enough (they were loose as fuck when I unbolted them) or head gasket was fucked even tho it's brand new. Checked to see if head was flat and it was couldn't get the smallest gauge in under anywhere, However, when I took the head off the pistons had heaps of coolant in them. Not good I'm guessing. Gonna order another gasket set and this time I shouldn't use that gasket goo shit right? We were running a thermostat but we took it out cos it restricted the flow of coolant too much and is probably one of the reasons it overheated. gonna get a new one. I still have no idea about where the water holes and pipe plugs and shit are, could you upload a picture/diagram etc? But yeah next week I'll double check everything and make sure it's all torqued properly Cheers fellas really appreciate it
  11. What is this (1/4 pipe plug) you speak of? And waht is RTV?
  12. Haha yea ADHD editing. The gasket set has 8 plug cone with silver rings on either end and 6 other gaskets. I have no clue what they are for, Ive got the head off and got some feeler gauges. http://imgur.com/gallery/jhEudLx
  13. Doesn't appear to be warped from what I can see. Should I try again and crank doe the bolts real hard
  14. Alright I'll check, if worst comes to worst we have an identical spare engine that I could use the head from
  15. I just replaced all gaskets too so they're all brand new
