OK well it has been awhile since I was on the site. Been working my butt off after taking a part time job at the shop that works on my cars. So yes I have been busy prepping other folks rides. So here are some updated shots plus I changed my mind on the motor!
Full Retard on the power plant....
And the paint will be House of Colors silver base strip in the middle...

Nice find. Love the green!

yes
yes, its usually easier to find one and get everything you need.
I am running an 83 turbo motor ordered from Japan new. My buddy heavyfoot found a used one and rebuilt it. You will be much happier with the turbo motor for sure.

I Installed a 76 280Z tank into my 240z. The tank fits fine but you need to get the longer J bolts that hold the straps. Also, if you are planning on doing any spirited driving, you will get fuel starvation issues when cornering with less then a 1/4 tank. You will need to install a surge tank
to keep a constant fuel supply while cornering with low fuel levels.
I do track days in my Z so I always keep the fuel at half a tank or more. I need to install a surge tank. Normal street driving is no problem.
Oh and i will throw in the straps......now that is cheap dorra round eye.

75-76 tanks will fit in a 240z.
They have the indent for the spare tire well where the 77-78 tanks are more of a "twinkie" shape because the later 280z lost the in floor tire well and went to the new "space saver" spare tire.
Im running a 75 tank in my 73 with EFI.
And Hollander is wrong. I have a 76 tank for you cheaP dorra round eye!!!!!

Hello all,
I am writing this to let you all know that I added 2186 new part numbers to the site (http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun510) last night. These are new replacement part numbers for Datsun 510 parts that made it into later Nissan models since 1974 (the last edition of the original Datsun 510 parts catalog from Nissan). This update should make it the most complete part number resource available for the 510.
I hope you will find it useful.
Thanks,
Lars Tungen

Great site. I am about to scan a factory manual from '78 so if you could use some of that I can send you the info. I got the catalog from my friend at the dealership and would not mind asking if he had anything you needed.

Stock at first with a European cam then I am going to see if I can lop the ends off a L28 intake then put fuel injection and a turbo with three to four pounds of boost. I would also like to eventually do the 280zx rear end conversion.
-
Here is the first list.....
Motor is at the machine shop as we speak
Strip and paint engine bay
New gaskets for front and rear glass ( on order )
Rewire sections of harness chewed by rats
Recarpet interior
Order seat covers from Motorsport (280 style)
Yokahama AVS skins
As much urethane underneath as possible
Source dash cover
repair cancer and paint 240 lime green ( note this is my wife's car and she picked the color )
Flat black rising sun on hood
shave rear and front no bumpers
sony cd player with JL subs and sony fronts ( on the shelf )
Hopefully get Tokiko shocks
sand blast valve cover and paint crinkle finish
black out tint all around on glass
rebuild AC system
Here are some more pics of the carnage!

Hey Lex, I'm not sure if you've considered putting a heat shield between your turbo and your Brake Master Cylinder, but it doesn't look like you have one. Probably wouldn't be a bad investment, IMO.
Good luck on the dyno.
Heat shield and some racing blue brake fluid. I did that to my z and yes it helped.

Well here she is..

Oh and I plan on using the European spec cam from Nissan if the current one tests out bad.

i prefer sidedraft mikunis. webers are good as well. depending on the size of your cam, you may need more or less of a carb. 40's are typical, 44s are large, and 50s are race carbs.
Great help Matt. Will the side drafts mate to the stock intake manifold. If so what is the part number if you have it? I just got my new tower today for home so I will post some pics tonight of my mess!
-
the manifold i have for sale is the smog one, unfortunately. I don't know of anyone that makes a quality header anymore. I much prefer the non-smog manifold to any header.
O.K. I guess that would mean blocking off all the smog ports on the manifold. I would like to put a turbo on the car eventually because I am trying to see if I can lop the ends off of a 280 z intake manifold and put fuel injection on after I get it running with a carb set up. I was told by a guy who raced the dimes in the seventies that 3 to 4 lbs of boost is reliable and safe.
I was under the assumption that the stock manifold would be more constrictive but if you are saying the quality is not out there anymore it might be time for me to think about making my own. Also what carb do you recommend for the stock replacement? Sorry for all the questions but I have been working every night and sourcing by day. Ordered a Nissan windshield gasket and the rear gasket from Japan yesterday!

Thanks for the info mattwood. The exhaust manifold you have is it non smog. Also I found a guy on the net that makes a header and I was wondering if there are other sources. I would much rather deal with a crew you guy's have used before.
