If in a wrecking yard look for the engine tag located on the passenger side inner fender under the hood hinge. It will look something like this... Bottom line, TRANS, AXLE far right is HF38 this would be a 3.8 ratio installed at the factory. Look for 33 or 35. H is the H-190. The Maxima wagon had 3.545 H-190 if manual and 3.364 if automatic The '82-'83 S110 200sx had a 3.545 if manual transmission. Both cars above had side gear splines that won't match your axles, but you can swap your 320 side gear in place of them... 1 Quote

wayno Posted August 23 Report Posted August 23 Just keep searching Hardbody trucks with H190 axles, 3.5 gears are around, not sure if the TDI Jetta engine has the torque to turn 3.3 gears, what kind of HP/torque does the engine have? I sold a NL320 guy a set of 3.5 gears that had an LD20 diesel engine in it, don't remember if it had a turbocharger, he was happy. I have a SD25 engine with a turbocharger and I am turning 3.3 gears, I would like 3.0 gears, I wonder if the Nissan D21 made an axle with 3.0 gears? Quote

Well it sounds like you can turn 3.3 gears like me and I am heavier, I just want 3.0 gearing to get my rpms down below 2400rpms at 75mph. It took me years to find a second dropout H190 with 3.3 gears and that was when there were sometimes close to ten 720s in the wrecking yard, and I had 3 yards in my area, they came in 720 trucks with a mileage option with a 2.0 liter nap Z engine, the wrecking yard guys don't know about stuff like that, you have to look yourself. Anything over 7psi is a waste to me, it just wears my engine out faster, I have taken both my diesel engine to 20psi and held it there, it did not really pull that much harder after 7psi, mine will get a little higher(10psi), but I do not try for higher boost, I like what I have and want it to last.
