Rustbin Posted July 28 Report Posted July 28 I was wondering if anyone has a good method of removing the corrosion from an aluminum cam cover. What I've found online is vapor blasting and such but I'm looking for a way that I can do in my shop without major expense. Quote
junkafide Posted July 28 Report Posted July 28 Non-abrasive method would be to use vinegar or similar weak acid. Quote
datzenmike Posted July 28 Report Posted July 28 Draino and hot water is at the high end of alkaline acids. I've cleaned heads with it but it will dissolve aluminum and give off hydrogen gas so don't leave over night. The heads were not corroded so I don't think acids actually dissolve aluminum oxide. Turns aluminum black but polishes up after. I looked up electrolysis but that only works with iron/steel. Quote
