A series clutch question

Hello I'm doing my first clutch job, A15 with a 60 series 5 speed. None of my manuals say how much travel is normal, between the sleeve/throwout bearing and it making contact with the pressure plate fingers? It's at least an inch.

I know i can take that slack away when i adjust the clutch cable, it just seems like a lot of freeplay. Wanted to make sure it seems ok before i get it back in. Youtube short link below, really appreciate any help.

Cable? or is it a mechanical push rod?? Isn't the 1200 hydraulic operated?

 

On the hydraulic clutch the clutch arm is pushed towards the rear to disconnect the clutch disc. How does pulling the cable work?

Agreed. However all hydraulic clutches push on the clutch arm. So how does the clutch arm work, I wonder.

Looks like from diagrams (below) the clutch fork is in a different position for the cable and therefore the pulling motion is transferred in the opposite direction as the pushing of the hydraulic slave cylinder.

Wish i got a video before i put it back together, lessons have been learnt 🙂 

 

The bearing sits on a 48mm sleeve, the sleeves held onto the clutch fork with a spring (that returns the sleeve). When you pull the fork towards the engine, the whole sleeve and bearing slides towards the clutch. I'm trying to explain something i don't entirely understand sorry.

 

Which all seems to be working fine, it's just a lot of freeplay and i don't know whats acceptable. I can't buy a longer sleeve, 48mm is what it previously ran and is also the largest sleeve available.

If the clutch arm attaches to the right side and the sleeve and bearing are in the middle, if you pull the left end forward by cable, then yes it would work. 

 

The hydraulic clutch arm is like a see saw. If pushed back by the slave it transmits forward motion to the other end.

 

 

Surely not all 1200s are cable? None of my references mention or show a cable.

Yep, seesaw is a great analogy and exactly how I was imaging it, looks like from site it was a RHD thing only. The cache site loaded more pics today so I pasted another in which shows it on the transmission. Datsun1200.com still seems to be down though.
