I now have brakes, but no clutch disengagement

Recommended Posts

Ok so, first a million thanks to Datzenmike!! I now have brakes on my 77 620! This truck has sat for 20 years before I got it. After 2 frustrating years of me trying to get the brakes bled (incorrectly) now have brakes!!

But now I have no clutch disengagement. I put it in R with the clutch pressed, and it started to grind then went into R and the truck lurched backwards with my foot still pressed on the clutch. I tried starting in 1st with the clutch pressed and it jumps forward while cranking.

I replaced the clutch master 2yrs ago, and today saw the slave moving back and forth as it should.

So my question is, is there some crap ass nldv for the clutch, is there a trick to get a possibility stuck clutch disk/pressure plate unstuck?

The slave push rod should move just over an inch. If it's moving, then the clutch disc is rusty/stuck to the flywheel or the pressure plate.... or both.

At worst the transmission has to come out and the pressure plate unbolted to physically separate the disc.

With it outside, put in fourth, hold clutch pedal down and have some friends rock the truck back and forth. If vigorous enough, the disc may come loose.

Ok, if I measure from where the dust boot seals around the slave cylinder rod, to the shift fork

Clutch pedal out 1"

Clutch pedal in  1.5"

One thing I noticed, the bleeder screw is on the bottom/underneath where the rubber hose goes into the slave. Isn't that trapping air at the top of the cylinder?
