Rusty Dawg
Howdy folks, My passenger side door recently stopped working as it does not latch closed. My driver's side mechanism clicks when you spin it, but my passenger side door spins freely. I have attached a photo of the 5-star mechanism. Might other models after 1960-1963 use the same part? wayno
I have a few 320 doors, that looks familiar, I will try to remember to look at my doors this afternoon. Quote Link to comment
wayno
OK, I looked at the 320 doors I had and they had the star wheel, but I have no idea if they are the same size, if you want I could take a photo of them with a tape measure near them and we could go from there. I have no idea if they are the same, I could take a photo with a tape measure near it and we could go from there. You might have to message me if I do not respond, this is not a subject I normally watch closely. Edited March 29 by wayno Quote Link to comment
Rusty Dawg
Thanks Wayno, I wouldn't know what else to do if they aren't the same. I will send you a separate message as a reminder as you mention. For the record, I don't blame you for not following this subject either. Quote Link to comment
wayno
I will take photos of these doors I have, hope they are right hand doors. Another fact, I do not know if either have a functioning lock mechanism, I save doors when I am planning on making a kingcab, I need the door sheet metal to fill in hole in back of the door. wayno
Well I forgot to load the photos onto my computer, I have a right side door from a L320, I also have a locking mechanism out of the door, the gear only turns freely one way on both of them, but I did not spend the time figuring out how to release it, the one already out of the door is not that rusty. This thing is long with the handle piece. Edited April 2 by wayno Quote Link to comment
Rusty Dawg
I am not near my truck, but it should spin freely one way and click in the opposite direction. I didn't think about whether it matters right or left door. I thought they would be interchangeable, but that's incorrect. Quote Link to comment
wayno
I am going to try to post photos here, this forum is going crazy, saying I cannot do that, or don't have permission to do that. Here are the photos I took a couple days ago, you can see the bumper above the star gear is slightly to the left, they are both right door mechanisms/parts, the shaft going down in the second photo is long, and I do not believe it just comes off with the removal of cotter key or other such clip, I should have looked closer. Rusty Dawg
That doesn't seem to look anything like what I have or are my eyes desiving me? Quote Link to comment
Rustbin
@Rusty Dawg your latch has a round pin and @wayno's have an oval pin. They seem to have the same mounting points. How do those thing work anyway, does it have a pawl that stops it rotating backward until the latch is pulled? Could it be gummed up with dirt or the pawl jammed? Quote Link to comment
Rusty Dawg
Hello Rustbin, The working latch clicks when spun one way, but the broken one does not...it spins freely in both directions. Quote Link to comment
Rustbin
@Rusty Dawg I mean if you removed the three slotted screws and looked at the back, how do the mechanical's work? Is it something that can be fixed? Quote Link to comment
Rusty Dawg
I have yet to completely remove it, so I am not sure at this point. Quote Link to comment
