Neutrida
Greetings from Austria Europe. First off my situation: I bought a 1981 Datsun Bluebird 910 Hardtop Coupe as my first car and drove it in questionable condition for half a year and fell in love with it. Now it's sitting and I need to replace parts to get it inspected. It is not good condition looking at the body and suspension anymore. (rust, worn suspension and very bad paint) My question: Where can I find suspension bushings? I would like to get black polyurethane bushings because they last longer and ride better in the bends. I found the front shock absorber cartridges from KYB are still available and the rear struts are the same as the 280zx struts which are available as Bilstein B6 (24-000574). Where can I find the rest or should I give up and try 3D printing molds for the bushings? Thanks. 1 Quote Link to comment
Bleach
Is that car similar the US version of the 1981 Nissan Maxima? I thought the suspension design was nearly identical to the 280ZX. You might be able to compare pictures of the suspension. The 280ZX does have poly bushings. I dont' know if they are black but certainly they come in red colour. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
European 910s were shorter in the front for a 4 cylinder. There were dual SU SSS engines in them, or available optionally and long dogleg 5 speeds. The Maxima has 910 designation. Quote Link to comment
Neutrida
Thanks for the replies, as far as I can thell from picures of the rear suspension they are the same withe 280zx, however I'm not sure. I think I will try to mold them myself first, it's cheaper and I have the time. I also tried to find parts in Japan but these cars are so rare I could not find anything, or maybe I searched wrong. I actually have the 5 speed and it is not a dogleg, maybe there is a version I don't know though. Mine has the L18T engine with 90hp and the 38mm Hitachi twin carburetors which I don't quite understand yet how to properly set up. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
So not this smooth front case FS5W63A... Probably this FS5W71B... The front case bolt pattern determines what engine it will fit. They were used on L, SD, LD, Z, and CA series engines so will easily fit an L18. Quote Link to comment
Neutrida
Okay, good to know. There was a 110hp version with the same engine I think, I don't know how it has 20hp more than mine but maybe that one has that dogleg gearbox. My gearbox is leaking oil so I should probably change the seal in the middle (?), and it was driven without oil for a while because the 5.gear was loud and there was no oil in it. I feel like these take a lot of abuse, mine has 200.000Km and after some new oil it shut up. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
My '76 710 L20 says 110 hp but this is gross hp. My '78 720 is 93 net hp with same engine. How are they measured in Europe? Leak points are the front and rear seals. Leaking, or appearing to leak, in the middle might be the vent from over filling. The middle sealing gaskets rarely leak Quote Link to comment
Neutrida
Thanks I will check again sometime, might have been only from overfilling. My engine has 66kW on the flywheel so 90ps. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The oil should fill to the fill hole. When you can't add more it full. The 71B holds 2 liters +-. Overfilling causes foaming Quote Link to comment
Neutrida
Well then it's not overfilled but I can remember it was slightly oily.... I think I will create a build thread, that's where you can post your progress right? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It's an excellent idea. In the future you can look back and easily find things you did. Power wash the transmission and check daily for where the oil starts to seep out. The front seal will drip out below the flywheel and will migrate back from wind. The rear seal will wet the driveshaft and spray all over the tunnel. Make sure the fill bung is snug. Quote Link to comment
Neutrida
Thanks. Do you happen to know some subtle metal fender flares I can weld in? All four corners of mine are shot and the back has been fumbled with really badly. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
No, but get plastic ones. Quote Link to comment
Neutrida
I'd rather not, previous owner did and It looked gross. Will definitely do metal flares and post some pictures hopefully. Quote Link to comment
