uav2
I am new to this forum so would like to say "hi". I have recently taken on a resto of a 1960 PL310 which has everything intact, minor rust and ran a few years ago. I would like to refresh/inspect the engine but obviously would like to have a gasket kit available before I disassemble the engine. I can't find a "E" engine kit only a "E1" gasket kit. I believe I have read that the only difference was in the head to provide more compression. i found an E1 kit but noticed the valve cover gasket had 6 perimeter holes where mine has none. So my question is, would the E1 gaskets kit be useful? Second question, what is the main differences between the E and E1 engine for future work if needed. Thanks Quote Link to comment
wayno
I believe that early E1 engines had the 2 bolts in top of the valve cover, don't take anything apart until you can find he parts you need, maybe forklift places have what you need, there is also MG engine parts to be searched for compatible parts. 1 Quote Link to comment
uav2
Wayno appreciate the quick response would you happen to know which MGB engines are similar thanks Quote Link to comment
wayno
I do not know all the specifics. Read 320 threads and see who has rebuilt their engines, I had a very early 1962 datsun U320, that engine was nothing like the other early 320 engines I have seen/read about, my E1 engine did not have a rear seal, it had this main rear bearing that had a tube going to the bottom of the oil pan, the cavity behind the main rear bearing was huge, that cavity drained thru that tube, really weird, also my soft plugs were just domed circles, one puts the plug into the hole and then smacks the center to make it flatter which seals the edges, old chevy engines were like that. Like I said, do not throw anything away until you have a running engine, if you cannot find any info I can message someone that will know a lot more than me and point them your way There is also this forum in the link below. also https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=9cc33f2cc4172abafd357662f2f8ffcdd35f2fa9817967e00e893854cb66b8b1JmltdHM9MTc3MTQ1OTIwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=09eba889-02a8-6642-32c5-bd80030067ea&psq=Nico+forums&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly9mb3J1bXMubmljb2NsdWIuY29tLw Quote Link to comment

uav2
OK, went and checked the plate and shows this is an "E" engine and confirmed it ran 7 years ago just prior to being stored in a storage container in AZ. Will be pulling the engine next week but not disassembling at this time, I want to scope the cylinders to make sure no rust in the cyclinders prior to turning over. Looks like this is positive ground so will be converting during the resto. Bodywise in very good shape except for a crack in the front windshield, I have heard that the same windshield was used in the 62-65 320, so hoping to find one somewhere. Wayno I saw in an old thread that you had found some of these windshields, would you have a contact I could followup on? Thanks Quote Link to comment
wayno
I had the 320 windshields made by this company below. Kotto Auto Glass West Covina, California 562-690-3535 For some reason the info will not show anything about this company, maybe they refuse to pay them???, I have no idea why it will not let me copy and paste there info, it shows business hours, all I can say is call them and see how much it will cost to have them make a windshield, someone else asked me recently about this also.
