Pete53
I have a 1973 l20b 510. To be honest I am not very familiar with cars and my idea was getting a 510 to teach myself. I recently replaced my radiator and after driving for a few hundred miles everything was going good. Until I started this morning I hear what you can hear in the video around the 6 second mark. So I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. Thanks EDIT: My initial thoughts would be the waterpump. IMG_7233.MOV Edited November 6 by Pete53 I inserted what I believe the problem could be. Quote Link to comment
TinKanTosser
Not completely like what my bad water pump sounded like on a Corolla, but it was a constant screaming noise at all revs above idle, seems in line with your noise being above idle. It was extremely loud and I wasn't sure what it was until I found out that when the pump is shot it will leak coolant out of the weep holes, which you can check by parking it on concrete and seeing if it drips in that area after a drive. I may have put a thousand miles on it driving it like that, and when I finally figured it out and changed the water pump, the aluminum housing had warped badly and would not seal. Car was down for a month until I figured out the gap from the warpage was far too great for the gasket to seal. Ended up having to sand down the surface and give it a thin but healthy coat of RTV. It never leaked in a couple thousand miles after that, then blew the head gasket on a long trip. Also a good example of why I don't trust or value most career mechanics, I took the car to get its transmission diagnosed right after I'd gotten it on the road, and the old men at the shop seriously told me the noise was a vacuum leak.
