85 720 king cab 4x2
What can I do with the AIS system on my 84 Nissan 4 x 4 trying to put a Weber carb on here do I have to get another manifold that has no ports in it or what can I do with these two tubes and imports that go into the air filter, and Help would be greatly appreciated Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Only way to keep the AIS is to modify the bottom of the stock 720 air filter to fit the Weber. Here's a couple of ideas... Quote Link to comment
85 720 king cab 4x2
So I picked up an 84 Nissan 720 4 x 4 and from the carburetor air filter it’s got in the ASI system on it and I’m trying to put a Weber on it. How hard would it be? How much difference would it make if I just got a new exhaust side manifold without it?? and then put the Weber carb on to a regular manifold without the ASI the tubes coming out? Would this be a dumb idea? Should I just keep the stock carburetor that’s on there and go with that I’ve never seen anything like this some kind of clueless when it comes to the system any help would be greatly appreciated. datzenmike
These two post are similar so I merged them rather than repeating my answer. Yes you can run without the AIS. This system is absolutely benign in operation and is down stream of the engine so working or not has no effect on the engine, well other than not providing added air so the catalytic converter can operate properly. NC85ST
If the stock carburetor is not giving you problems, then I wouldn’t change it. Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
I am on my third exhaust manifold.Got a pin hole in the original one.Long ago before internet.Nissan still had them for sale.I bought a new one for 212 bucks, with hardware. Still have the receipt. They charged me 12 bucks for a plug to plug a hole.In time that one also got a pin hole.So I bought another one on line. Not a Nissan one.No longer for sale. This one as you see came with 3 bolts that plug the holes that are not needed.I.I deleted the cat. Bought a new 4x4 down pipe that connects to it years ago,I bought a new Nissan Egr.I never deleted my vacuum lines.Drive perfect with them.So why remove them. I Would go Weber. To me stock carbs are junk.Nissan Dealership here told me tha long ago when I took my truck to them to work on carb. They would not touch it.They even told me to get a Weber.Said our stock carbs were a bad design.I even took my stock carb to 3 other places, all charged me 200 each and gave it back the same way as I took it to them.I should of went to Nissan first.I spent a fortune on replacing everything that connects to the stock carb.Still have receipts. That is when Nissan had all the parts in stock.I've been running Webers on this 85 since 2003.That red sticker you see is what Jasper Engine put on there remanufactured engines they sell.Got it in 2009.See the other screw plug by the oil dip stick. You may find some screw plugs to plug your holes instead of buy another exhaust manifold. The stock carburetor flows more air than the Weber 32/36. The reason peeps put a Weber on is when the stock carburetor has an unfixable problem like a warped top, or jammed power valve. If they are after performance, the Weber 36/36 is better for a built 2.4 liter engine, but the stocker can be jetted richer for a performance increase but fuel economy will suffer either way Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
oh, and of course a reason why people fit a weber: they can't find someone who understands the stock carburetor. Even at some Nissan dealers. It is more sophisticated than the simple Weber. But I suspect the misunderstanding is more about the emission controls. The Weber only has a couple of them 1 Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
Yeah. Also too much stuff connected to it that can go bad and nowhere to find replacement parts.Plus not any good.Plus so easy to replace spark plugs with a Weber. But,they are for die hard old school Nissan people. Here is a exhaust manifold.Like mine.
