datzenmike Posted February 13 Report Share Posted February 13 Cylinders won't rust if hood closed, kept inside and air filter left on. Run it for a few weeks so the belt polishes the rusty pulleys then skip to the chase and put a new belt on. If not fixed it's best to have a new belt on it any way. If not belt or pulleys then most likely the alternator bearing. Pick a spot between alternator and water pump and push down on belt with thumb. If properly tensioned, it should deflect no more than a belt width. Does your 521 have a belt driven air pump???? Remove the belt. Quote Link to comment
