510 suspension

Hello ratsun community/family 

I'm new here and I'm sure this question has been asked. I been into datsuns since a kid but could mainly only afford the trucks. I recently picked up a 69 510 and man it's a whole other machine.  Long story short I'm now learning about 510s and I love them. The guy had switched the og suspension with 1982ish 200sx shocks/struts? I came across some 240sx godspeed coilovers.  My question is since it's been somewhat converted would the 240sx work?

Do S13 240SX strut tops fit the 510?

 

I believe so. Whatever fits the 510 struts will fit the 200SX strut. The key part is the small-diameter coilover strut top, it depends on the car, not the strut

 

200SX and 510 strut tube diameter is the same at 2.0 inch, so the adjustable collars will def fit

 

The 200SX struts are an upgrade for the 510: larger brake rotors and a more modern caliper design. 1982 is the S110 200SX while 1983 is the S12 200SX

Actually the '84 was the first S12.

 

'80-'81 Z20E

'82-'83 Z22E last S110 was 08'83.

10'83 CA20E or CA18ET were first S12s

The 240sx front strut will not fit the 510. Different type of lower mount. JBC (James Boswell Coachwerks) sell a bottom mount adapter to make it work, but sadly he doesn't show any in stock. You could try sending him a message, he might be willing to share the CAD file.

He's already got upgraded struts

 

I think his question is: will coilover kit designed for 240SX fit the 510?

If these are "coilovers" (actually they are new strut assemblies with springs), then no they won't fit the 510, as @fiveoneO said the lower mount won't bolt to the 510

This coilover kit for 240SX will fit the 510 struts and the 200SX struts

 

Will that disc-shaped top hat work with the struts? Dunno, but it's not adjustable for camber or caster

 

Adjustable top hats for 510 look like this: 3-bolt mount camber-adjustable top plate. The stock 510 top plate is not adjustable

The 710 top hat is off set sightly. By  turning it you can select more or less camber. I guess caster would also be changed.

Go back to stock and be done with it…if your goal is to simply get to driving it.

For way less that $30 you can make the stock strut adjustable for height and stiffen the spring.
