Bit expensive but at least no guess work. WOT in the high 12s, idles and cruises around high 14s. 4.5 qts would be ok if you also changed your filter. Next time you change the oil see where 4 quarts comes to and try to keep it there after the filter fills up. Will do for the oil, gonna change it relatively soon to clean out the assembly lube. I've been wanting an afr gauge, I'll probably shell out the money once I've got a working exhaust Quote Link to comment

Or you can use detonation cans, sort of like headphones for listening for pinging https://www.google.com/search?q=detonation+cans Gotcha I'll definitely hold off pushing anything til I've got it quieted down, might make some det cans either way though for piece of mind Quote Link to comment
toshts
Some updates 🙂 Smoke is gone, as for what it was extremely rich, burning oil and burning coolant are all fair game. Oil - was overfilled 1/2-3/4 of a quart, have a decent bit of blowby/pressure out of the oil cap (didn't have any with the stock z22 setup, putting clamps on my pcv hoses seemed to help it they were a lot looser than I thought). Fuel - during hot days it was heat soaking bad and bubbling over in the carb. Coolant - my dumbass didn't torque the manifolds down, after noticing the gasket was soaked with coolant I torqued it and it hasn't gotten wet again. Moral of the story - should have taken my time and done things more proper. Now that I've gotten most of the little things sorted out I think I have some ideas on where to go from here. With my u67 having been milled roughly 0.050 off the deck and in need of a valve job, I was planning on biting the bullet, pulling it again, getting new seats and guides and adding a 0.020 head saver shim. Currently I can only run 10 degrees of timing without pinging on 91 octane, pull a rapidly shaky 17-18mmhg at idle, my low end torque doesn't seem quite as good as it was with the stock z22 and while my top end is a good bit better it doesn't seem like its as good as it should be. Yesterday I got super lucky and ended up getting my hands on another complete l20b. Fully rebuilt, within a week of having it in the truck it got totaled so they saved the motor and its been sitting for many years. So I now have a w58 head that appears to be in fantastic shape, a little surface rust on the valves but otherwise super clean, haven't cleaned the gaskets off yet but with rough measurements it seems to be very close to stock thickness and the cam gear was very tight to get off with no shims on the cam towers. Gonna pull it apart, clean it up, test the valves for leaks and flatness then I think I'm gonna run it instead of the overly milled u67? It came with headers and a large port intake manifold with coolant runners as well as a spare 32/36 with a manual choke. That being said, is there any reason I'd wanna put the money into the u67 instead? Either way I'll dump the married manifolds I currently have and do any needed work to whichever head I end up using.
