Haven't been on interstate at night lately so can't say how that is now. Daytime sucks now. We used to have joke and song sessions, most WAAY off color, racial and ethnic. We all spoke English, knew WAAY before we got to trouble unless you were 1st on scene. America was GREAT!! Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
Dwayne,we use to drive to North Carolina in the 60's and 70 's to visit family from Georgia and dad had a C.B.He would get behind the truckers knowing that they could speed and knew where all the Smokey's were.We had fun on the C.B..South Carolina State troopers try to hide with there radars. We never got a speeding ticket. Well down here in the South the CB community is still very much alive! When I was travelling through Tennessee I could not believe all the people talking, it was a great time. In fact I have a neighbour that is a Ford mechanic and he's out in his garage most evenings with some of the coolest radio setups I have seen, granted I know close to nothing about them. heh. 1 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
it must have been really something in the 70s when even normal people had CBs 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Had a truck driving job in the mid '80s and all I had was a CB for entertainment. Once every great while a noob would come on asking something about traffic and as per FCC? regs signed off with his 'call sign' a combination of numbers and letters issued with your CB license*. Naturally everyone in ear shot would immediately yell BINGO!!!!  * Long since abandoned as few did this anyway and the number of CBs out there was impossible to police anyway. But noobs persist. Quote Link to comment

But noobs persist. Every Christmas there'd be a BUNCHA noobs with gifted CBs. I got my license when I started in 70s, KXB-760. I listened for a week before I talked any to see who sounded like I wanted to sound. Then they deregulated. Linear amps were the thing. I didn't get one till I near froze in KS when I ran the Detroit 318 out of fuel. One of the prettiest things ever was the Mexican in a Mack Cruiseliner who rescued me. I had a linear the next week when I got to Franklin, KY "Big T" truckstop which sold them. Got a 200W Firebird. I run 450-600W Palomars now. Quote Link to comment
