nissanmike
Mike Do you know of the best US based transmission shop that specializes in 720 manual rebuilds. I would like to restore my recent 720 find. 2nd gear impossible to shift into on the roll. Reverse and 5th pop out of gear occasionally. Have new clutch assembly installed still with some difficulty entering gears. I can ship transmission either for a already rebuilt or to have rebuilt. Any recommendations? Thanks Michael Quote Link to comment

Thomas Perkins
Hi Nissan mike.Mid West Transmission has Nissan 720 transmissions for 1245.11.They will want yours for the core.Back in 2017,mine went bad.I took it to a transmission shop here in Columbus,Ga.He said they don't rebuild them.Told me he could get one from Mid West with a year warranty. He also put a new U-joint on and a new yoke. The bad yoke was causing it to vibrate and make a noise.Yoke was 135.00.That was 8 years ago and still doing great.I have been using Redline MT-90 gear oil in it since then.Oriellys can get it in a day.Takes 2 quarts. My wife needed a transmission for her 2004 lincoln ls 3.0.I had a Jasper one installed by a Jasper installer here.He put a Jasper engine in my 85 Nissan 720 2.4 4x4 back in 2009,now have about 108,000 miles on it and still runs great.Jasper comes with a 3 year,or 100,000 mile warranty. If anything goes wrong Jasper will send another one.Only a Jasper installer can install them.My wife's transmission is doing great. The engine back then was 1700.He put a clutch in it back in 2009.Still doing good.I think he got it from Napa.He also put the custom made heating and air in my 720, 5 years ago.Done put a lot of money in my 720 in 31 years. You get what you pay for.You can go to mid west transmission and see them. They are showing 2 types. Here they are.I screen shot them.Call them. powderfinger
nissanmike, I don't know how mechanically inclined you are but if you are restoring your truck it might be a good time to improve those skills or you will have way too much money tied up in a $2000 truck. These manual transmissions are not that difficult to work on. I realize the task may seem daunting but if you take it step by step you can likely fix it yourself. Especially with the help of this forum. 1 Quote Link to comment
iceman510
Original poster/nissanmike- I have a good 5 speed trans from an '81 720 I would sell. This is for a 2wd if that is what you need. Obviously shipping would be involved, and not sure what the best way is these days as Greyhound doesn't do freight anymore. Let me know/message me. 1 Quote Link to comment
