Since you'll have the parking brake in the off position to facilitate replacement, block both front tires with a 2x4 before and after the tires. Then you can safely jack up the rear. With a 4x4 you don't even need to jack it up, if you don't mind sliding under the truck on a large piece of cardboard

Unfortunately the previous owner already removed them. 

 

I was planning on jacking it up and using stands so I can do the tranny oil and address a few cut wires for the back up lights while I'm down there. I'm very careful about safely lifting cars, I'm not getting a crushed ribcage for an oil change. Thanks for the advice!
