ogyango
so i want more camber on my truck, i was told to get longer bolts for the upper control arm and add a bunch of washer i did that but seems like it did nothing i can see that u can get shims and get more but i wanna know if u can still get a good amount of camber up front like -5 or -3 around there i have done one side but looks to me it’s still straight i cant lower the front end more bc i will hit my wheel a lot since i run 18 up front. datzenmike
Positive tire top tilts outward or negative tire top moves inwards. You can only produce a small positive camber increase by removing the shims already there. Negative you can increase more with shims. Measure your camber with a level vertically across the rim edges and make sure the truck is on level ground. LOL the washers or shims go between the frame and the upper control arm, not under the bolt head. Do both bolts the same number of shims or you will upset the caster. You have the wrong rim off set, that's why they stick out too far and you can't lower it without rubbing. Tires should be within the fenders not sticking out unless you are after a 'look'. If for a certain 'look' then you have to live with the problems this causes. Including mud thrown all over the side of the truck. 17" is the rim size but you can select tires that equal the same diameter and the original stock 195/75R14s which are 25.5" tall an 7.7" wide. This can be ordered in a variety of widths to suit you but keeping the same height keeps the speedometer accurate and does not mess with the gearing and performance. An equivalent in a 17" tire would be a 195/55R17 25.44" by 7.68" wide. Quote Link to comment
ogyango
thanks for the help i honestly didn’t know that i was getting some help from someone else. but im running 18 just bc i like them for now i was planning on going to 225/35 for smaller wheels. since its a drift truck i could care less about how it looks i have 5 lug swap and the wheels are 18x9.5 22+ so there big i kind of meant to have the look like this wheels sticking out. and i do have the truck around uneven surface. going lower than was never an option for me since i’ve never liked this truck to low or ill start to scrape in a lot of places here where i love. my other option of getting more camber was cutting the upper arm and getting short for more camber or extend the lower control arm for more camber and angle but already have angle so no need for that. and if the washer go in between how much could i add? the bolts i got are pretty long not sure if i need them or not since thats one of my main question do i need longer bolts for more camber and so should i put them in between or on the actual head Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I said it wrong... the washers need to be between the spindle and the frame. This will pull the upper control arm towards the center of the truck. Ahhh 18" then 190/50R18s should be close. I would lengthen the bolts by the increase you pick for added washers. Can't shim them too much or cut the upper control arms shorter too much or they will rub the shock absorber. 25/35 what's. Diameter is critical as taller tires make your stock 720 gearing even worse. For drifting you would want 4.375 or even 4.625 so they break away easier for over steer. There's an engine tag riveted to the right inner fender under the hood hinge giving the axle ratio it came with. Look bottom right corner of tag. I don't see the year mentioned in your profile so 3.90, likely worse. 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Washers are fine to use. The factory uses a C shape usually so you can insert them and remove without removing the bolt every time. Having more washers or less on the front bolt alters the caster. So if there are shims already just add an equal number of washers on both bolts. Quote Link to comment
ogyango
yea there’s no shims at all on the upper control arm alr i’ll just cut some and just put it on and ig i’ll just put the long bolts on since i already bought them lol thx for the info really needed it!! but should i just add the washer in the middle where the bolt goes through right Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
To move the upper control arm inward, put the washers between the spindle and the frame. Quote Link to comment
ogyango
that’s where it meets with the upper control arm right Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The upper control arm is connected to the spindle so adding washers between the frame and the spindle will move them both inwards to the center of the vehicle moving tire tops inwards or negative camber. On the drivers side, for example, looking from the front and left to right you should see... fame / washers / spindle / bolt head. Passenger side left to right ... bolt head / spindle / washers / frame. Use equal numbers of washers on BOTH bolts. Quote Link to comment
