banzai510(hainz)
well my fancy wheels I got faily cheap have this issue. Guy rebuilt these and I finally put them one but he must have found the bolts in a local hardware store or something. I put car away then I look later the bolts are rusting looking horrible. I want the same allen wrench type bolt that fits in there. I keep seeing the multiple star type heads but prefer this anybody know where to get these or a link and know the torq value for the bolts. I hope stainless this time post a link please Edited March 11 by banzai510(hainz) Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
might try Contact Us - SSR|SSR Wheels But if you remove one of the bolts, and measure the length, O.D. of the head, length of the head, thread pitch, then any bolt supplier will work. With stainless you want quality spec bolt, as stainless is weaker than carbon steel bolts. Which I suppose is why there are so many of the bolts For example: McMaster-Carr allen head stainless Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I forgot to say Nice rims! Formula MESH by Speed Star Racing. They only make 18" and 19" now The fasteners are called pierce bolts. They are probably M8 thread, check the length, and probably has a nut on the back side. Torque depends on the strength rating of the bolt, so don't overtighten. Typically, M8 stainless bolts are torqued to 16nm (140 inch lbs/11 ft lb) stainless bolts should be used with anti-seize Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Thanks Yea I will call SSRas a last resort SSR but it always seems like a bad move as a I get a phone Jockey. If they actually list a phone number On Ebay there is alot of choices M6/7/8 . really hate just to take one apart but didnt see the allen type. figure there be a SSR tech spec guy on here somewhere SSR Website dont even list a phone number. What the Fuck? Edited March 12 by banzai510(hainz) Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
4 hours ago, banzai510(hainz) said: Yea I will call SSRas a last resort SSR yea the SSR wheels came with different length bolts. They easy to take apart this place sells black pierce bolts for 95c each Barrel Bros black zinc plated high tensile rim screw Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Yeah I saw that link but I think they in England or Austraila as they use nm for torq. I was hoping a local place to deal with and a fucking phone number to call also dont you want a smooth schanK on the bolts? this is harder than I thought. Maybe go back to my cheap Rota RBs Edited March 12 by banzai510(hainz) Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Hainz, You can get that hardware anywhere. Try McMaster-Carr, or if maybe Bel Metric. And the reason the rusted in the first place is because they used unplated hardware. Upgrade to zinc plated steel or even stainless. 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I email a SSR distributor in kent just now and see if they even write back Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
SSR is the bomb, wish i still had mine The reason SSR don't list a phone number is they in Japan, the local distributors sell in USA. What you might run into is the old MESH uses slightly different length bolts than new MESH. Just gotta look if you want it done right They list nm because that's what they use in Japan. But yea they are in Australia. And it goes to show, the bolts are not expensive If you really want stainless, instead of the plated bolts that SSR uses, McMaster has $8 each high-strength stainless, and they have a USA phone number: (562) 692-5911 The zinc-plated high carbon steel take a much higher torque New MESH (16") looks like zinc-plated, or you can get colorized versions like black, but they only available when ordering new wheels, SSR don't sell them individual bolts SSR|SSR MESH Wheels Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
8$ each is abit much when needing 20 a wheel. This is harder than I thought. I want whatever that DONT rust Fuck it ,spay with WD40 and wipe it down. Lucky I didnt pay $1400 for these wheels like he wanted Edited March 12 by banzai510(hainz) Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
SSR don't use stainless, they use quality plated, which last 50 years out in the weather. Keep it simple Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
yes one place responded back at 300$ with nuts plus 5-8weeks out 1 wheels needs 20 x 4=80 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
McMaster-Carr socket head cap screws - https://www.mcmaster.com/products/socket-head-cap-screws/socket-head-screws~/finish~zinc-plated/ I'm assuming they are 8x1.25 metric, but 5/16-24 would be nearly the same size. Either way, prices for metric are about $16 for a bag of 50 screws. SAE, about $5 for a bag of 10. Don't overthink it. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
It's funny that the search engine here found zero results for SSR... I couldn't remember where this thread was and the search engine couldn't find it. Lame. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
yea is funny no forum can find words less than 3-character long. Ratsun used to give a message to that effect but now says nothing when it fails real search engines can find it: site:ratsun.net SSR bolts Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
found these but dont like the heads but more idea of the size https://www.ebay.com/itm/376005583127?_skw=SSR+wheels+pierce+bolts&itmmeta=01JP7VABK418852YVNHK8ETY7C&hash=item578bade117:g:FJAAAOSwxu9ntKeP&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA8FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1cZbBBYbUzV50378zzQDxMDhEVnfZgBzgavnWUrdNVJpYN5azmKrkGbOWKoZZqRUcTBK4a3r6zCco0l%2FjHI%2BqsNdgx%2BTmQOLgNMOh39Fcj6%2BqwwVYlEBjWqSL6QcdqDBTb8M4FQ%2BsOtGK7Do%2Bp7EXHW50TuIqfaBgxbe%2F8yymaLaU%2BUUj19N61s6wG6C%2BonKJy1HtWi0oO4rdBvTA1nnINe1vaROE8CHGos%2FtlpDOBrDHfwi7RHidpewsmnXXFl5qO2dWV%2BSXJyPDF7cBnEvMM82tDGG81vxub06BMhvlDO%2BA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBM2Lmp-7Fl Edited March 13 by banzai510(hainz) Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
MESH uses allen-head bolts which recess into the wheel disk Those eBay bolts are for different SSR, they'd probably fit my SSR MK-II which had hex-head bolts. Come to think of it, the zinc plating looked a little crusty after 40 years, but did not look rusty and did not put streaks down the wheel my old SSR Mark-II on my 1200 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Im going to pull a bolt out maybe this weekend and get measurements/photos. and see whats the closest McMaster result will be.Best choice between ggzilla and Stoffregen suggest Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
well i tried to pull one bolt out. i hit the 12mm nut in back w/ a impact . the serrated nut came off ez.i used a number 6 allen and a leaned half my weight on there and wouldnt move. I put the nut on partly hit it with rubber mallet. Then a wackd with a metal punch. Said fuck it put it back together. Mite need a number 6 allen with 3/8 on a breaker bar. Maybe shank is tite if has a shank or threaded in wheel. Maybe corroded? Think just clean head of bolts and use fine black,/ paint brush w/model paint brush. Give me some thing todo if i retire Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Sounds like a plan. Probably a little corrosion on them Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
You could use a rust converter on the heads of the screws. Rust-Mort is one brand. You spray it on and let it sit until the rust turns dark grey, then hose it off. The converter removes the rust and also leaves a black oxide coating which looks nice and should not rust again for awhile. I would not try a breaker bar. I would try an electric impact with the 6mm hex, but only after I soaked them in penetrating oil. They might be threaded into the wheel and the nut is a sort of jam nut, so banging them out from the back might mess things up. Quote Link to comment
