1971 VH Valiant Charger

Recommended Posts

I'll update this a bit, but the lowdown is I have always had Aussie Chryslers

In 2010 I bought this VH Valiant Charger and have only recently bought it home and started working on it.

It will be a patina build with nice trim and engine bay.

Here is an overview if you can get past my rotten mug, and some crappy audio!

reminds me of a Plymouth Barracuda crossed with a Celica. Nothing like my Plymouth Valiant. I had a gold one with a green door. My friend who lived 1000km away had a green one with a gold door ... what are the chances?

Does it have the Hemi, or does it have the V8?

I was scratching my head a bit over the 265 Hemi.  I remember Chrysler offered some lower displacement V8 Hemi motors in the 60's, but I haven't heard of a 265 6 cylinder.  I need to look again, but here they offered a 270 6 here in the US called the "slant six"  I had a '65 Dodge with that motor, and it ran great and was super reliable.

Forgive my rambling.  That's a nice looking car, and looking forward to see what you do with it!

They had the Slant Six in Australian Valiants, used in the early cars. The Chrysler Hemi-6 replaced it. It started in USA as a replacement for the Slant 6, but Chrysler realized they didn't need a replacement. So, Chrysler Australia finished the design and shipped it for 1970. While we got the malaise era here in america, the muscle car era continued down under!

My first car was my dad's 5 year old '64 Polara 225 slant six. First thing I did was wide oval tires, then made an adapter and put a 318 two barrel on it. Needed a bicycle hand brake cable to make it work. Last was splitting the front 3 cylinders from the rear three and running dual exhaust through glass pack 'mufflers'. From 30-90 it would equal a buddies 283 swapped Chevelle 3 speed.

It was a hemi in name only.
