Thomas Perkins
If you want to make your own kick panels. Here's how I made mine.On my 85,the original ones were made of cheap chip board.Similar to thick cereal box.I found some Diamond plate sheets at Lowe's for a little over 50 dollars for a 36×36 inch sheet.Tractor supply has them also but cost more.I used my jig saw to cut them.Better than snips.I took the old ones off and traced onto Diamond plate.I did make them longer to cover more of the carpet. At the same time,I put new carpet in it.The Diamond plate needed to be longer to cover the carpet.I have 6.5 inch speakers in them.I have a 1/2 thick piece of wood behind the speaker cause the hole in the side is not big enough for the back of the speaker to go in.The hole is made for smaller speakers. The guy that sold the truck to me made the wood.He also had 6.5 inch speakers in it.You can't let the metal on back of speakers to touch metal frame or stereo won't work.My Kenwood will tell you that you have a bad connection. So I put a piece of plastic in back on speaker. datzenmike
Later 720s had them in plastic, don't know when they changed from that pressboard. 1 Quote Link to comment

Thomas, are both of those made out of the cardboard-like pressboard? If so, painting it silver looks pretty good! I know all automakers used pressboard at the time so it was a valid choice of material, but it always end ends up scuffy-looking like that brown one ... not a great choice for a kicking panel! 1 Quote Link to comment
