Tedman
Had to install a heli-coil for the RR cam cover bolt hole to stop an oil leak. Edited May 17 by Tedman 1 Quote Link to comment
Tedman
After fussing with several gas caps and home-made gaskets, I finally traced the fuel cap leak issue to deformations in the filler flange. Fortunately, I was able to re-form it back into a shape that would form a seal. Edited May 17 by Tedman 1 Quote Link to comment

Lately, Muttley has been getting the call more often than not. The little L16 gets better gas mileage and is more suited to around town driving, not to mention Muttley's off-road capabilities which I have been exploring lately (more on that to follow). Zeke is a little more high-strung and needs room to stretch. Both are great fun to drive in their own way. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tedman
A few weeks ago I took Muttley on a little day trip to Mt. Palomar, the hard way. Nate Harrison Grade is a 9.5 mile steep and twisty dirt road from Pauma Valley up Palomar Mountain with an average grade of 8% and a 4500' elevation gain. Muttley was in 1st gear virtually the whole way up. Back on pavement at the top, we visited a fire lookout and the Mt.Palomar observatory, then headed back down the mountain via East Grade to Santa Ysabel for lunch. Then we headed back home taking Ortega Highway from Lake Elsinore to San Juan Capistrano. It was a 400 mile round trip, and Muttley averaged 25 mpg. Muttley didn't miss a beat save for losing a strut tower cap somewhere along the way, but I have a few spares, so no big deal. Been dreaming about making this trip for some time now, so super stoked to pull it off! Part way up Nate Harrison Grade. View of Pauma Valley from part way up Harrison Grade. This short section had some surviving pavement. Steep and narrow! Made it to the top! Fire lookout station. Volunteers George and Jeff gave me the grand tour of the fire lookout. View to the west from the fire lookout. On a clear day the Pacific Ocean would be visible. The majestic Palomar Observatory. Had to get this sticker for Muttley to commemorate the occasion. '72 Dime for reference. Edited 16 hours ago by Tedman 1 Quote Link to comment

For the coolant recovery bottle to work properly the special radiator cap is needed. When the cooling system cools over night it contracts and siphons the recovered coolant back into the radiator. I don't know if this was done or not. Quote Link to comment
