Steering column

I am missing this piece on my steering column, looking for a replacement or ideas on what others are/have used…if anyone has a source, I am thinking of using a thrust washer or bearing…I believe it’s called an ASSY-BUSH COLUMN JACKET 48054-20500. Was unable to locate a source…

Called a collar though I would call it a collet just like the keepers on a valve stem. There are two held in place with a wire that wraps around that small groove.

 

The Collar is 40418-30800 the spring is 40419-30800 although a cotton thread will do to hold in place till the wheel is on. These two parts are on every Datsun from the Roadster/520/521/510 through the mid '80s.  So lots out there if you ask.

 

It's tapered and fits a taper in the steering wheel so NO washer and NO bearing or the wheel won't attach properly.

 

Your 48054-20500 is actually a bushing down in the steering column tube.

LOL....that's a pic in my shop.  I just looked up a vid of mine.....at the 3min mark, you can see that the 510 column has the same tapered collar.  I'm pretty sure all the Z cars and other models will have the same collar.  The spline and it's diameter is the same on all of them.

just an FYI, while waiting on the oem part from Japan, I just want to say 3/4" thrust washers work great, if parts are unavailable or you are in a pinch, I will report back with any issues if they arise...I feel like I have power steering now. LOL

This is so stupid is almost funny, part number 48418M steering wheel collar, I ordered 1, you would think its a collar, right? well they sent 1 piece, which is half the collar. you need to order 2 to complete the collar, apparently.... LOL

Shown above is for a Stanza with a part number for each half.  Others show one part number covering both. Either way they all say the same price, about $1.50.

I no longer need mine man let me know and I can bring it with me to Colton, I got the brakes off you. My new setup will not use that spacer so if you need.
