No matter what Hitachi jet you have it will at least run ok. Yes you could fine tune it and gain a little better mileage and a little performance assuming your Datsun was originally sold on the coast and has a large primary jet and you now reside in a state that is at an altitude of say 5,000 feet. You would not increase the power (as the air is thinner) but going to a much smaller jet would increase your mileage. Conversely if bought in Denver (smaller jet) and moved to sea level going to a larger jet would increase power.

If serious about fine tuning you really would need a wide band O2 sensor and gauge. Anything else is guess work.

Go to Amazon for jets for motorcycles. $10!!! Get a range from 90-115. Arizona is 4,000 feet or more.

My 710 came from Arizona and the main jet was 104 or something. I am literally at sea level so way more air pressure than 5,000 feet. I found a local Datsun L20B and the jet was 112. I switched it and my performance and gas mileage increased.

I believe the truck was sold and remained in the state which is great for rust, or what appropriate amount it has on it.

I did purchase a wideband O2 kit and currently running 14.7 - 15.2 at idle.

Elevation where I'm at is 974' and currently running 104/165 pri. jets

THANK YOU for the link. Much better feeling getting this reference than ordering off amazon myself and end up with junk.

Sounds like bumping up primary main jet is in my future!

The thing to look at is where the gauge reads while at cruise speeds. Again 14.7 would be better for mileage what does it read floored? Then performance, it would be best in high 12s low 13s.

I got mine to tune my R-1 carburetors and it was 9.6 floored and probably even lower, I don't think the gauge read lower than that. You could actually see black smoke. Little by little I reduced the jet sizes to get high 12s. Idle was 14.7 or close and so was 50 MPG at highway cruise speeds.
