I have 71 521 and previous owner did a 5 speed swap, I’m guessing it came from a 280z any ideas on what year? I need to replace the slave cylinder so want to order the right one.

I'm using the same one from my original 4spd on my 5spd swap.... so I'd just get a replace for the 521....

One thing to note is some have an adjustable push rod and possibly a spring.... and the clutch fork may or may not have a hole in it... that would be the biggest factor....

The 510/521 used an adjustable clutch arm and return spring to provide some small clearance between the release bearing and the pressure plate diaphragm fingers. At some point this was discontinued but I see no difference in the master or slave internal parts. Perhaps it was found the release bearing can ride loosely against the fingers without concern of wear?

30620-25501 is the 521 slave part number. The 521 slave flex line mounts on the front end in order to have more clearance for the torsion bar. The 510 salve flex line mounts on the side but probably would probably work. A better substitute would be a slave from a 620 but it doesn't have the eyelet for the return spring to attach to.

There were several L series five speeds so a picture is in order. You can narrow this down by a simple length measurement. If under 31.5" then not a 71B from a Z car, 810 or truck. Take multiple pictures of the right or passenger side including the speedometer cable connection and any switches. It's often easier to tell what it is NOT from

Ive used the Z one on mine. No issues. If you still have the 280 Z fork then just use a Z one. The adjustment can be made to work on either in my experience
