4 door PU sighted

I was at the dunes for Thanksgiving (ISDRA, Algodones).  The camp next to us had a 4 door right-hand drive PU that looked similar to a D21.  I talked to the owner and he said that it came from Japan and that it had a 2.0 motor of some sort.  He also said that the gearing was lower.  The rear axle looked bigger than my D21.

 

Anybody know anything about them?

I think that would be called a double cab truck. Too bad no pictures.

It would be cool to get one and extend the frame to fit the US bed.  I'd love to have one!

You'd have to move the axle back to fit the wheel openings.

I think at that point might as well throw your budget out the window. The 4 door trucks are neat ,but afaict you lose a full bed, which kinda defeats the purpose. Might as well have a Baja or BRAT at that point?

Yeah it wouldn't be a gimmy that's for sure.  There was one for sale locally.  I went and looked at it.  Looks odd with the mega short bed.  But that would just turn it into a mega project.  Extending everything.  Buying a frontier would probably be the smart thing to do.

The grill was different, and I think that the fenders were different also

Somewhere on my computer(s) I have a pic of a 6 door that was built for the Saudi market. Kinda cool, solves the kid problem of who gets the window seat

The beds on these trucks are still useful. They're like a foot shorter than the regular bed but still big enough to put in work.
