Will a steering wheel from a 1978-1980 510 bolt on and work on a 1972 510?

The later HL510 or A10 is only as close to the earlier PL510 as it's emblems on the fenders. I never call them 510s I call them A10s. Not much will swap as they are totally different vehicles.

 

The spline is very likely the same but the horn contact maybe not. I've put a '79-'83 280zx wheel on my '78 620 and '76 710. I think through the mid '80s at least are the same I tried a '90s car and it was much smaller spline.

 

The fit against the plastic column clam shell is another unknown as well as the turn signal switch cancelling.

The 80 A10 steering wheel will absolutely fit. I put mine in my 72 when the horn button on my aftermarket wheel started honking on every right turn. Here's a pick of how the horn contact lines up.
