Negative energy, people not wanting to go to events, the community as a whole not being good to one another. Im sure ive been part of the problem at times with my frustrations and calling people out on their shit over the years (ratsun related). But even the american car communities seem to be falling apart as well. Low attendance numbers, burnt out energy. People taking more than they give.

Well Ted, I quit going to all meets after the Brooks meet when I brought the U320, I got very sick, just like when I met my first Vaccinated person(jabbed 4 days before) back in early May of 2021, the reaction when I told her she made me sick did not surprise her, she made others sick also the way she reacted/the way she sighed.

I have learned so much from the "Destruction of America" thread, if that thread is removed Ratsun will never hear from me again, when these wack jobs still running this country right now don't get their way, they sensor/remove what makes them look bad, hopefully the same will not be said here on Ratsun, when some on here don't like what they read they want it removed, a minority dictating to the masses, I hope it does not happen here.

So wtf happened? Ive been getting negative feed back towards the community. Wtf happened? Its not just datsuns either. Ive been seeing and hearing it the last couple years. Did we finally hit the wall in the car community?

C'mon Ted spill it. What's got you bothered about what other people on the outside think about our cars, Datsuns in particular.

TRULY! LET IT OUT!

I could give a shit about the social norms! I live for a good joke! That being said I error on the side of respect, patience, and compassion unless given a reason not to. Actually I love irreverent humor always!

Not sure what you're specifically referring to, but I do feel there has been a general waning of car culture in the US.  Kids/young adults are only interested in social media garbage, and car ownership/usage is being assaulted at every turn by the progressive whackjobs. Personally, just life has been a huge block towards anything Datsun related.

My 710 still has 2020 gas in it. Didn't even start it this year. Had a large dumpster delivered and half filled it, over half, with Nissan parts. Fuck it, I'm done hoarding it. Kept some stuff but back yard looks better. Cost and bother of shipping is 10x what I'd get for it. Done building and don't want to work on them no more, tired, old.

Still like helping out on the forum though.

I've noticed with the AE86 group I used to be part of and now with these Datsun's, things have changed since the prices of our cars have gone up. People back in the day would drive Datsun's because we loved driving them. Car meets and Datsun gatherings would be the same kind of like minded people just hanging out and sharing our love for these stupid cars. Now that they are worth so much money, it seems more of a status thing to own one. If your car isn't perfect or you don't have the rarest of rare part you're not really welcome at the meet ups.

Some of that is inflation. Your money has simply become more worth less. You used to get a running though barely safe 510 for $500- $1,000 20 years ago. Cars are older, there are fewer every year from attrition, parts are even rarer, some auto supply stores don't stock high wear items.

The Datsun scene has been dying for years now. Especially after Candy Died.  Jay at powerland is doing his best to keep the spirit alive.  People just dont attend or make the effort to support these show like they used to. And thats sad. I will support who ever has a Datsun themed show or get together even if I cant physically go.

Guys, here in Cali there has been a trickle down in Datsuns as well. However the economy is bad, and after Covid which was greatly exaggerated and fucked to tears the world has not bounced back yet. Service and food quality is not the same people have changed and it's a sad. It comes and goes with the car scene as well, I have cut back a lot as well as Im tired of the soft cry babies here in Cali that want the warm and fuzzy and positive people bullshit. Im not that guy and never will be. I keep talking about doing a show like J-Bird down here but all people do is bitch and complain about everything, some of it is legit but most are just complainers PERIOD. Also now everyone wants to charge to park a car at a cars and coffee or some other 4-5 hour shit-show, that's getting old as well. JBird has the best thing going, Im surprised more PNW people dont show up to make it come alive, Its gotten bigger but I would expect more and more. I went to the last 2 years of CANBY and it was cool but the venue for Powerland is way better more room plus the museum as well is an added plus.

I think the waning of car culture as we know it is because you can't work on newer cars, I see very few cars more than 15 years old. If you have ever had an aircooled VW you had to have a working relationship with it, checking this, fixing that. Other cars of the era needed owner maintenance as well, there was no idiot light sensor telling you the air pressure it low in the right rear tire, you had to check yourself. Anti lock brakes, traction control, google telling when to turn means you don't have to focus on what your doing behind the wheel. Now they don't even want you to drive your car, the car will drive you. Those who never develop an understanding of cars can never appreciate them or the culture.

My personal feeling is a lot of the newer generation with the newer cars also don't really give a shit about the cars themselves, they are only in it for how the cars make them look. They have no deep understanding or love for the vehicles it is just whatever is a quick ego boost.

I feel this way as well. It's the Instagram culture if you will, looking cool is more important than having a car that is fast or good handling or something you built in your garage.

There are a lot of car meet up's here in the Portland area with young adults in lowered BMW's, BRZ's and 350Z's etc. slammed to the ground with stretched tires and shitty burble tunes. I've gone to a few of them in my 510 hoping to hang out with car people, but I felt out of place, probably because of my age, but I felt the vibe was more about looking cool and posturing next to your gold wrapped BRZ than hanging out with people who appreciate the work you did in your garage to make your car fun to drive. One of these pop-up meets I went to by my house was huge, there must have been 300 cars there. It's car culture I guess, just not one that I'm interested in.

JBird is a badass for putting on the Powerland show, there is so much work to put on a show like this. The venue is awesome with all of the museums to visit and decent food for a fair price. All of the Powerland personnel I talked to were cool, and they seemed happy to have the Datsun show there.

I was really excited for this years show knowing that the weather would be good in July, and I expected there would be a shit ton of people that would show up, but I was surprised at the lack of attendees, even though it seemed there were more people than the last couple years. It was a good time, and I talked to a bunch of cool Datsun people while I was there on Saturday. Hopefully next year the turn out will be better and more of the Datsun crowd from the PNW will attend.
