NissanNut
I bought this 521 in pieces. I removed the aftermarket intermittent wipers, they were spliced into oem connector near motor. I soldered the wires back to the original colors at the connector. But now when I turn on the wipers the go down instead of up. They do park themselves most of the time. Since there is so many wires at the connector not sure if they correct. I will post a picture of connectors if needed. I cut the wires at the switch that is on turn signal stalk. I need OEM knob. Did I install linkage or something backwards? I did remove linkage to paint inside cab. Not sure if I installed backwards. Edited November 25, 2024 by NissanNut typo Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If the wipers start their cycle by doing down slightly before going up the windshield then see below... I think the park position simply needs to be adjusted. If it stops above the bottom of the windshield it will turn on the next time by continuing down before reversing and going up. Wet the windshield and keep it wet and lubricated with water and and turn wipers on several sweeps and then turn off. If they stop slightly before the bottom of the glass, the park position is adjusted by loosening the lock plate securing screws and twisting the locking plate counter clockwise. This allows the motor to beep turning longer and the wiper blade to park further down the glass. If they stop before the bottom of the glass but begin their sweep by immediately going up then the arms simply need to come off their splined pivot shafts and re-positioned farther down the glass. You said they sometimes start by moving downwards first so I don't think this is your problem. 1 Quote Link to comment
NissanNut
Thanks!! I will try this. I think the contacts are dirty because the park does not always work. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Rain acts like a lubricant so if wet the wipers will travel slightly further before stopping. Quote Link to comment
NissanNut
I made a short video of wiper issue. I must of installed linkage upside down or something? Attached is a picture of linkage also. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I suppose the power wire and the ground might be reversed. Electric motor would run backwards. Quote Link to comment
wayno
Did you have the arm off the wiper motor drive shaft and put it back on in the wrong position, my drive arm is pointed at 4pm at rest sitting in the passenger seat, yours appears to me to be pointed straight up at the windshield at rest? I felt under my 521 dash and my driver's side arm pivot shaft is on the bottom, your linkage appears to be correct/not upside down. Quote Link to comment
NissanNut
I bought the truck in pieces. The wiper motor was not installed. But you nailed it. The arm was 180 out!!! Thanks Wayno!!! Quote Link to comment
