There’s another way to do it without having to replace the whole trim. It’s a flared sleeve that epoxies into the original metal trim ring.

Very true, from my perspective it was the best way to make parts that would work for the most people since its representative of stock just longer.

Acetone and textured paint. 
 

I’ll tell you what though. Those plastic column clamshells are often broken on many cars. Most people need a whole replacement anyway.
