Stripping a Z22 before scrapping and am wondering what parts are interchangeable. I know exhaust manifold is slightly different and most exterior brackets etc. are the same. what about the rockers, lifters? I amm assuming same block just different cc's.

Exhaust manifolds will exchange though later ones have or may have an O2 sensor.

2wd have one AIS (air injection system) port but 4x4 have two.

Heads and valve train are identical but for the intake port shape. Z20/22 are round, Z24 are square with rounded corners but same bolt pattern and can fit. Intakes the same but some emissions ports may be missing on the Z22 and the Z24i intake is totally different than the Z22. The opening at the front of the head for the mechanical fuel pump is not open or machined on the Z24 head. Z22 valve covers are cast and Z24 are stamped steel, totally interchangeable if you swap the bolts also.

Carburetors are different as are timing covers, blocks, rods, pistons and crankshafts. Flywheels will exchange but the Z24 is a larger 240mm pressure plate and I see no advantage putting a Z22 225mm clutch on. Oil pans will swap but as the Z24 is 2cm taller it might be made to sit higher for ground clearance.

The Z22 block, crankshaft and rods are the making of the LZ2300 hybrid 'Big Bore' engine. All you need is bore to 89mm and fit KA24E pistons and an L20B U67 or W58 head, oil pan and timing cover with matchbox. Superior breathing and 10.18 compression.
